after changing timing OK, drove 80 miles city after setting my timing back to 0 TDC per Calif smog rules. Now gets worse mileage, 10 MPG, harder to start and run cold. Does this make sense to anybody? Naturally I will advance the timing again, but have no good clue where the right spot might...

No jackrabbit starts, even when totally grannying it the mileage was bad. But according to posts, it should/could be better. Checked timing, it was way advanced, set it back to 0 TDC and we'll see in a few days. PS, only has 86,000 miles on it so doubt if it is compression or transmission...

lose air system be careful about losing the air system, when I took the belt off the smog pump seems like it messed up the pump, had to get a new pump to make it pass.

Hmm... maybe I'll try retarding the timing a little, supposed to be 0 TDC but I advanced it a little. Got rid of all the smog stuff I could (EGR), but in Calif the 1976 year is still smogged so can't do much. Maybe I should just inflate my tires, an important guy said that works too.

Seems like 12 mpg is pretty bad for a great running 318 with auto trans. It's city driving, but not lead footing. Doesn't get much better on highway. Is this as good as it gets?

I have the same problem in my stock 76 Volare with auto trans. Seems to wind out a lot at high speeds (over 60), wish there was an economical solution. Any ideas would be welcome!

guess I should get 2, do you need the original dimension?

anyone know where to find a trunk torsion rod that fits a 76 Volare? one of mine broke, spent lot of time trying to weld it back together (don't try that at home, it will either bend or break again)
