    aspirator tube

Five years ago, I bought some steel stock and gasket material to make block-off plates (and gaskets), for about 20 block-off plate kits - but the project got deeply buried in my garage - so something to do on another day (or year...).

Actually Fel-Pro makes the gasket - BUT it is only available as part of a head gasket kit - so, yea (sigh). BudW

A500 OD spring stuck in Hub??

Unfortunately, I stopped paying attention as to the break-years, so can't give a good answer to that, EXCEPT: If you are looking at a transmission without a speedometer gear hole, it most likely will not work for you (for more than the obvious reason). Now a person might be able to reuse your...

    aspirator tube

My '77 has what @Aspen500 refers to pulse air. Chrysler calls it an aspirator valve. The valve blocks off the exhaust pulse then opens with the exhaust suction, allowing fresh air into the exhaust. It uses the hose that attaches to bottom side of air cleaner (which is VERY noisy when...

A500 OD spring stuck in Hub??

I both sorta like the Chrysler new transmission numbering system on one hand and on another, it can be confusing. The (automatic) transmissions that originally came in FMJ's are: A727, A904, A998 and A999. Of the last three, the A904 is light duty - and phased out/last used behind a 318 in '78...

A500 OD spring stuck in Hub??

Depending on what year transmission you find - you might have to reuse your existing case (if good) and/or valve body. You valve body shouldn't be damaged per-se, but it will need a thorough/in-depth cleaning. BudW

    AC delete pulley?

The no-A/C cars (that normally use the C-171 A/C compressor) use a bracket that has an idler pulley attached to it), that bolts in place of the A/C compressor. That way Ma Chrysler could use one set of pulleys and brackets for all small block cars (and V-6 pickup/van/Dakotas). The bolt in...

A500 OD spring stuck in Hub??

It has gotten incredibly hot! You can tell by the metal discoloration on the top picture. A rhetorical question, but how hot do you need to discolor metal? With that amount of metal (iron/steel and aluminum) floating about, it will take a lot of time to make sure all of it is all cleaned out...

A500 OD spring stuck in Hub??

Springs do break and I see broken ones all of the time, but honestly, the piston lip seals fail a lot more often - especially if transmission (or that particular clutch) has gotten too hot. A failed lip seal will either allow fluid to bypass it or will fold over causing the piston to stick or...

    Volare HVAC temperature cable question

The underhood hot water valve is either open or closed, depending on what mode the switch is on. The actual temperature control is based off of the cable. The '79 A/C temp cable part p/n is 3842156. On the case side of the cable, there is a weird adjusting clip that sometimes pops off. That...

    kick down and 4 barrel

Friend, you have been very lucky, then. It might have been production tolerances that has let you get by, maybe. Everyone I know of who has used a 2-bbl throttle cable on an FMJ 4-bbl application, has had their throttle stuck open, once engine has been put under a load. Engine mount "give"...

    kick down and 4 barrel

I haven't worked with (or on) a kickdown cable setup (yet) but the simplicity and the cost involved to find the "correct" parts (and not what someone is peddling off as "correct" parts - which are far from it). With the air cleaner in place, the cable setup is almost not viewable (for the most...

    Magnum swap info.

The Magnum 318 and 360's use the same oil pan. I am assuming the Magnum 318's went to the older 360 style oil pan style block attachment. I would agree, the Magnum oil pans will not fit passenger cars.

The Body Frame Date (BFD) can be months apart from the completion date. There is a (long video) made November '88 from an employee from the WI assembly plant, making M and 4-door L-bodies (Chrysler's smallest and largest cars on same assembly line). In that video, there was a large buffer area...

    Alternators used on all FMJ's

A good question to be asked. Chrysler voltage regulators, made from about '65 to '92ish work very similar. The differences is the '60's VR's are points - which do wear out over time, and use the single field wire. For daily usage, upgrading a '60's Mopar to electronic regulator and dual field...

    Alternators used on all FMJ's

Even with jump starting, a person needs to bump up the engine RPM on the vehicle to say 2000 RPM, or let it sit running (charging) for a long time at idle. One other thing, if you ever see smoke coming out of the alternator (any alternator), you had better disconnect the battery ASAP - because...

1986 Fifth Ave Up For Auction

If I was to "guess", I would say yes. I signed up for the service and was ready to bid (but didn't). I might be wrong, though. Usually initial gut feelings about something are usually correct. Folk in Nebraska and Oklahoma usually are pretty legit on things, but that said, creeps do sneak in.

Chrysler does like to change things like plug-in connectors every so often. If I recall correctly, there are four (or maybe 3?) different power window motor plug-in connector styles used on the FMJ's from '76 to '89. BudW

Possible ignition issue, Procomp 7000 series distributor

It sounds like maybe under-voltage to the ignition system. The higher the load to the engine, the more voltage needed to fire the spark plugs. I wonder if ignition has a 12 volts to it or if someone used a ballast resistor before ignition system, maybe? I am not a big fan of the HEI style...
