    Farleys Page

Yeah, I remember the shock when it sold to Allpar (and the subsequent upset feelings when they added a simple subsection to keep up with current stuff). At that point I felt it took a pretty decent hit, but then when Allpar sold..I agree, it became trash. It's unfortunate too, because the...

    Farleys Page

I know some of you on here used to frequent Farley's page (dippy.org), but I logged on earlier and noticed that there hasn't been a new post since May. I can't imagine at that rate how much longer it'd stay afloat, so I'd suggest pulling as much info before it gets lost. Sad to say as when I...

anyone here ever been pulled over for "No seatbelt" before?

Haha..sounds similar to my dealing. I got pulled over driving my AHB and asked to step out of the vehicle because a car matching the description of mine had just driven off without paying for fuel, and it was called in right as I drove by a sheriff car. I looked at the officer and calmly stated...

    Pinion angle?

From the sounds of it after it came back from the trans shop..the ujoint caps were the cause all along. Didn't get around to updating this as it was probably back for two weeks then was sold..but to make a long story short, when we grabbed a new Ujoint to replace the caps that fell out, the...

    Its been a ride

Never did update this after it got back, but holy cow it came back better than ever. Even with lifter tick, not being warmed up, and needing brakes bled, it ran so freaking well. ...that being said, Pops got a knock on the door this morning and it now has a new owner. Kinda bummed after 13...

I think I'm gonna need to change the title to this thread..ha! Car will be done from the trans shop either today or tomorrow. In addition to the rebuild/new converter/shift kit, he also found and addressed the cause for the shake it'd had since the rear end swap. It appears we were sold a...

    Magnum Heads onto LA block

My old 86 AHB. It sounds like Pops has gotten a renewed interest as of late though. It's scheduled to go in this week for a transmission rebuild/new converter, we just ordered new lifters/pushrods/cam since a bunch of lifters have collapsed from it sitting so long, and I've got an interior...

    Magnum Heads onto LA block

I've got better springs and had wanted to try them, but we just ordered the same cam for my old 318 to be safe. Down the road I'd love to build a 360 mag so I'm not quite ready to come off the springs yet.. but then again after the headaches with the rebuild on the Olds, I may just find a JY 5.7...

    Pinion angle?

Evidently I never updated this. I ended up swapping the 6° out with a 4° shim one day in 2021 after Dad said the problem was still there, if not worse. He said the 4° helped it a ton, but it still wasn't 100%. I got to thinking though, and I'm not sure the trans mount has ever been replaced...

    1969 Olds 442

A lot has happened since the last update... Took it to work a couple times to continue finding faults. Pretty well had things nailed down regarding what still needs addressed: something sounding like it's rolling around in the drums, PS front shock not hooked up, and addressing the tuning of...

    Its been a ride

Small update.. Ordered a new cam & lifter kit over the weekend, as well as new pushrods and intake gasket. Cam wasn't needed, but seeing as it has a couple collapsed lifters from sitting and we'd need to redo the break in, figured we'd play it safe and go new cam as well. Just went with the...

    Magnum Heads onto LA block

I believe anything over .525 lift requires a change. You just need to watch though, as the SBM cams are rated for 1.5 rockers and the magnums run 1.6..so you'll need to math out before committing

Agreed and appreciated. I think with the holidays coming up, as long as the interior gets switched I'll call it a win. The Olds still needs to go off for body work and an exhaust, so I can use the time it's gone to address the trans/converter as long as I've got the parts.

    1969 Olds 442

...if anyone has paid attention to my luck over the last 12 years on these pages (here and farleys) this will not come as a surprise... The first week of September, we went on vacation to FL while Dad was housesitting and had planned on getting the exhaust done on the car as well as the...

man..this aged well. Good news, I'm hopefully about to FINALLY get this Olds to the point where I can consistently get it out of the garage (thats depressing to say, actually) and get the AHB back in there to start the tear down. Once thats sorted, my next goal is the transmission/converter. I...

Thanks to one of the long time good guys, we now have a nearly complete interior to put into the AHB. I need to get a gray to match as he was unable to save the lower dash, so I need to paint the AHB lower..and figure out where to find the appropriate speedo gear and go back to the OE style...

Well this aged well (shoutout SSI) Where were at now doesn't look nearly as promising. Due to financial setbacks for Dad (again, shoutout SSI) he's actually thinking he's going to need to sell the car. Before that happens, we'll be replacing the interior to help it sell..and I may go ahead and...

Haven't updated in a while, so here's a couple pictures. Also, it finally fired up today. Not bad for 318 pistons..

    Its been a ride

Little update: Dad sent me a text this afternoon saying the car is (finally) going in for a trans rebuild. In addition to the rebuild, they're going to check pinion angle, replace the trans mount, add a shift kit and also put a new, higher stall converter in it. Based on what he (the mechanic)...

    1969 Olds 442

Finally found an issue where being a GM A body paid off. Most everything on this car is "Olds specific" it seems and a lot of things are hard to find parts for. Initially, I had figured being the same chassis as a Chevelle and GTO, parts should be plenty and cheap..I was wrong. Today...

    1969 Olds 442

Been a while since I've updated this, so here we go: FINALLY got the engine back a couple weeks ago. The original block is .040" over, has 2 sleeves, but was saved. Heads also needed a fair amount of work, but they're good now too. Being the Olds 400 G blocks are not well liked, we actually...

    1969 Olds 442

Machine shop has had my block and heads since May. We finally started getting things progressed, then he came down with Covid (nearly died) As it sits now, were on the hunt for pistons. The three choices are off the shelf Egge’s which don't have rings available, custom pistons which will create...
