Just saw this on Hemmings and thought of you BudW. It's already gone, but thought you would enjoy the pics and inspiration. What a beautiful car! You are really lucky to have one!

I love the "Fuselage Styled" Mopars. My parents had a '70 Newport four door hardtop with a 383. A gorgeous car and fast! The "open air" hardtop four-doors in the Fuselage Style are some of my favorites!

Wow... beautiful car.
I had a '69 300 hardtop coupe (same body as the 70 300H pictured), I loved that big bastige. I thought it was odd that it had manual windows and locks.

Back then, before the '99 300 "M" and then later the big rwd 300s came out, parts-monkeys had no idea what a Chrysler 300 was.

The engine is a 440, model is 300. Awww hell, put in Newport.

Fun Fact 1): the quarter panel, from the trailing edge of the door to the bumper is over 6'.
2) When I was buying a new house, I had to make sure the 300 would fit in the garage before I'd commit to buy. It did... w the front bumper touching the front wall.
3) When it was temporarily out of commission and parked in the garage, I refused to let anything be stored on its sizeable trunk or hood... if the roll-up door had to be opened to get around the back to the other side (which it did), then it did. Similar to the "broken window" theory in urban areas.
4) I got in some hot water w my HOA about the RV gate and carport I constructed to house my 300... we went to court and I won. Eff HOAs... never again.

I remember seeing one of those 300H's being used as a daily driver in this area back in the early '80's. My guess is it was a summer only DD because it had no rust that I recall.

I had two questions before putting in an offer for my house back in '97. One was, can I build a garage/shop behind the house and the other was, is there a HOA. It was yes to the first and no to the second.

Best looking C-body I ever saw was owned by a guy who was in my auto tech class and the local tech college back in '83-'84. It was a Chrysler Newport ('72,,,,,,I think), 2 door, what I now know as B5 Blue, or a very similar shade, white vinyl top, white interior with Torque-Thrust wheels, don't remember if it had white letter or white wall tires anymore, and the absolute PERFECT rake. It was one of those cars you couldn't stop staring at if you tried. You know what I mean.

Aspen500....Well I did disappear for a bit.
We had 13 inches of rain this past weekend in a little over 7 hours.
Then another 2 inches one day later.
BudW probably had that much as well, he's just north of me in Oklahoma.

Husband has another sinus infection and a capillary in his left nostril that is bleeding and won't quit (damn blood thinners)..and another doctor visit next week. This week we did a doctor today for zpak of steriods and new antibiotics.

You'll be happy to know that for the first time in 15 years I went to get a checkup.
Blood work is all good. Bad news is my height is shorter by 1 3/4 inches. I have to face the fact that I will never get to be 6 foot. Sucks. I always wanted to be 6 foot. Sigh.

I have $7,000 of dental repair needed (4 crowns). Apparently, the other dentist I went to 4 years ago neglected to tell me that silver amalgam fillings will crack your teeth and the industry recommends all of them be removed. So every one of these in my teeth has to be replaced. Ergo, no funds for fun stuff right now.

Then there is the visit for the colonoscopy I need to do like everybody else as they age, the dermatologist, podiatrist, and ob-gyn visit with the obligatory mammogram to finish off the year.

Husband was spazzing cause I haven't been to a doctor in 15 years, take no meds, and need to take better care of myself (so he says). Okay, I go to the docs, still take no meds, and blood work is a-1 great. Now he's irritated cause they agree that I don't have any issues. There is no pleasing him when he's got a sinus infection . LOL

I also had checked out for awhile. Just too much going on, and obligations that can't wait. FINALLY, I've gotten some big annoying things out of the way, and this weekend is supposed to be nice, so I am hoping to be able to get the carpet in OY and bolt in the new seats. I haven't even been able to move it for the past couple months because I have the seats and shifter out of it, and the new, untrimmed carpet is still "resting" on the bare floor.

Good for you. Sort of like going in for state inspection. Glad you passed without any repairs needed. I keep putting off the full workup, but I do go for six month "checkups", akin perhaps to having the oil changed. Like most men, I tend to avoid medical stuff - sort of afraid of finding out my frame is rusted out I suppose. Stupid. :rolleyes:

I have no plans on disappearing. I took kids out camping last weekend – just after all of the rain (never did look at how much – but maybe 10 inches before we left) – so busy with pre and post campout stuff.

The weekend before I took wife out for an anniversary weekend.

I have a 10-year-old zero turn mower and a 20-year-old normal 42” mower. My property is 1 acre with about 130 trees (mostly 12” – but a few 36” thick white oaks, Walnuts and a few other type trees). Spring of last year my zero-turn mower started to make vibrate on startup. Shortly afterwards, it took me about 3 hours to clear fallen limbs, prune a few limbs, and so forth, and use mower to move ‘em to the street (a block away) for big trash day (before the first mow of the year). I always check engine oil before using either lawnmower (and did so before using it for 3 hours, at idle).
After limbs removed, if finally got lower cranked up to finally start mowing. Got about 10 foot and engine tossed a rod. I didn’t know then but found out later two of four engine bolts fell out (the cause of vibration). The other two bolts were loose. The crankcase had cracked at one of the two loose bolts and underside of mower was soaked where engine oil had poured out.

I spent most of last year, getting my older mower working (which basically is now an old mower with all new mechanical parts on it), while replacing the motor on my zero turn.

The zero-turn had an 18 HP single cylinder Kohler engine and my older mower had a twin cylinder Briggs. Parts are quite high on Kohler, and not much source for parts nearby, whereas parts seem to be almost everywhere for Briggs – so I located a used 22 HP Briggs engine on eBay in April.

Once it came in, I tested it on bench before installing it. It pretty much started right away without much effort – but it only had one speed – Wide Open, and no way to turn engine off. I got it shut down and found out the shutoff diodes on ignition coils had failed. While replacing the engine harness (shutoff diodes), I noticed the engine was now hard to rotate (not locked up – but not far from it).

I took the pan off the new-to-me engine and found out the bolt for governor lever bolt was missing (so governor had no control of engine speed). Once I got pan off, I found the engine oil pump gears were missing (a double whammy). I also found a connecting rod had broken into three places, killing the block in the process.
Then a fight with the seller on eBay started.

I finally got that block fixed and engine bolted onto zero turn chassis not too long ago. Now I just need to remember how the rest of the chassis and transmissions goes back together . . .


Next item: my ’97 Dodge ¾ ton diesel pickup has been in a few minor fender-benders and other life issues.

Sense I live basically in the woods, so when we get ice, generally the trees will all ice together – so we have had very little limb damage in the twenty years at that location. Shortly after getting my ’77 wagon, we got ice, and this happened (November 2015).

The only damage to wagon was Left outer mirror glass broke and not a scratch elsewhere. My pickup picked up a small dent on hood and drivers fender (not bad).

Seventeen months later, this limb fell. A couple more minor dents in the pickup – but bent the Left quarter panel on my ’86 Fifth Ave (its first dent).

Well, after rain we got earlier this month, I discovered this limb in front of my pickup. After looking closer, I found this damage:

The vehicles get parked here because there are less trees over the area than anywhere else on property. My guess is the limb broke off and swung some thirty feet away – then hit big end first onto the windshield. Dash was cracked beforehand – but nothing to complain about. Well, now dash has been pushed down about 4 inches, shattering the dash across the entire area. The cluster front trim is in pieces. The screws holding the radio and A/C controls are in place but both items fell out. It is a mess.

I have been wanting to change the extended 2-door cab to a 4-door cab (2 half doors) and not mess with the windshield – but not found anything useable. So, still looking at my options on for the pickup.

Just too many irons in fire right now – so not as much time spent here. That should be changing soon, hopefully.

My 300/H is in dire need of restoration and I do not have big enough garage that it will fit into.
’69-71 Chrysler 300’s length (same for 2 or 4-doors) is 225 inches (almost 19 feet) long (over 5.7 m).
My ¾ ton diesel extended cab pickup with 8-foot bed is 244 inches long (20 foot, 4 inches. 6.2 m)) – which about ½ of the bed sticks out past the garage door.
The body length on my ’77 wagon is 201½ inches long (16¾ foot / 5.13 m) will barely fit.


My 300/H has a center console – which is almost the same as what ’66-70 B-body’s use. The only thing different is the console door is padded and there is a cigar lighter on metal end cap (for back seat). Almost all other ’70 300/H’s have 40/20/40 seats in them.

This is a new hood emblem I bought from Dodge back in the '80's. Note: the paint is a bit different than what cars used.

On another note, last year my brother found this ’70 300/H at an insurance pool, for bid. He got busy and forgot to bid on it – so it got away. This car has 9,915 miles on it – but man, he hit something hard with it. Hopefully it wasn’t another car . . .

My car came from an insurance pool, back in 1985. The Mopar car club I was in had a meet up at a lake not far from Tulsa OK. I got a real close look at this (my) car then. After departing our little party, we both took off at same time (I was driving my ’67 Plymouth Satellite at the time) and followed each other for a bit. The next thing I remember was the 300 was gone (out of sight), so I guess he punched it and rocketed out. Never did see or meet him again.

My dad found this (my) car in an insurance pool about 6 months later. Car was hit in rear, so rear bumper and both quarter panels are smashed. There is some light cracking to fiberglass deck lid – but that is repairable. I have been on the hunt for a ’70 300 rear clip sense then. The ’69 and ’71 bumpers and quarters are different. The rear bumpers are different from New Yorkers or Newport’s (well, a complete rear bumper will fit, but taillights and metal bumper are different).

I know it was the same car as above because the car tag was still on vehicle and it unique. The previous owner suffered a bad neck injury from being rear ended and was in hospital for some time, I was told.

I really wanted the car with pictures from above – for I could easily make a complete car with both – but o-well.

That sucks when a car gets smashed that bad, especially a rare one like a 300H. There is no way he hit another car, it almost had to have been a bridge pylon or some other immovable object to crush a 300 that badly.

My buddy had a '73 Imperial back in the '80's and one of the die cast wheel covers came off, rolled standing on edge and a Mercury Lynx (Escort) hit it. Bent the front bumper, sliced through through the radiator and then the oil pan like a knife. The wheel cover,,,,,,,,,,unharmed. I know, not a C body but that car could have survived a fall from a 300 foot cliff I think, all while getting upwards of 6 mpg, lol.

I would agree. He (or she) hit something HARD while going a few miles above the speed limit.

Those Imperial hubcaps weigh about 40 pounds each.

Believe it or not, the grills and headlight doors on the ’70 300 are made from cast iron. Then, just a few short years later, we get the super brittle plastic grills on our F-body’s . . .

The Imperial grille was die cast but still probably weighed a ton, lol! I remember when we were swapping the worn out 440 in it for a low mileage one and it literally took 5 people to pull the hood. One on each corner and one front and center to hold it up when the hinge bolts were removed. Became very clear why the best that car ever got was 8 mpg on the highway and MAYBE 4 in the city. The ultimate in gas hog. Even with all it's tonnage, it could still roast the tires at will :)

If that crashed 300 was at an insurance pool, I assume the damage is recent and not from 25 years ago(?) That kind of makes it even worse. It's be like a '70 Hemi 'Cuda getting totaled in 1977 or the same car getting totaled in 2017. Either way it sucks but you know what I'm getting at.

Ugh, That is a shame! Must have happened not long before because no surface rust on it yet. I doubt many of them were made in the first place, and it's sad to see one so destroyed. Hope the driver got out ok.
