Good morning,

I picked up a car for parts and as can happen it's too complete to part out in my view. It's a 76 Aspen R/T factory 4 speed car and 318 (currently 360). Chocolate brown with the orange/yellow stripe (currently no stripe), parchment interior, cracked windshield and typical Aspen rust (cowl and 1 area on 1 frame rail) but not terrible, basic repair for some one with metal skills. I got it running and yard driving as we call it but I wouldn't really call it roadworthy but I could make it that way with minimal effort and expense. I really don't think I want it but know it's not worth a lot, the fact that it's a factory 4 speed car makes it worth saving to me, probably by someone else. Space is a problem and I have plenty of cars more deserving of my time. So what's it worth or do I just back corner it and preserve it? I can send pictures to anyone really interested but just picture a chocolate brown no stripe Aspen with original ralleys that is a 10 footer, actually presents well when washed. I will mention the R/T grille is missing (has a cracked ordinary grille) to save all those contacts

Thanks in advance, Kevin

Kevin, this is going to be impossible for anybody to comment upon without many, and very detailed, pictures. There are just way too many variables, as in what is the state of the bodywork (read: rust, which these cars are prone to having), mechanical condition, some of the harder to find plastic pieces (see the louvers on the back side windows, wheel spats, and spoiler), paint overall, interior, inside and outside colours, options, and things like the some of the harder to find parts. Even things like tape stripe state will have an effect. Some of those are available from third parties, some are not. In any case, replacing any of those parts will cost money, if somebody wants to restore the car, which will have an effect on the value of the car to any potential buyer.

Understood, consider it a buildable fairly complete roller, this car was not equipped with louvers or a spoiler. It appears to be very complete and as I described. These are the only pictures I have of it on my phone.

Well, it isn’t rusted in half and it drives, there’s worse on the market for $2,500+, and there’s better for $10K+. Most of them have been on the market for years.
There’s been a couple resto mods built and sold in the last couple years that sold for over $20k. If you want to do body work/paint, swap a gen3 hemi in front of those pedals, suspension and brakes, and the aforementioned frame repair, it may sell for some decent coin. But that seems to be what it takes to get guys to get excited about these cars these days.
You do have a running driving v8 and 4speed though, if you just wanted to try and move it quick, $2,500-$3,800. Anything more, it will likely just stay with you awhile.
There’s 2 guys on, Facebook that I can think of that seemingly can’t help but buy a running driving, Aspen…but a lot of the guys in the groups on, Facebook don’t particularly participate on this forum, sadly. I mean, most car guys capable of doing frame repair don’t care about these cars to put the time into them.

There’s about 7 of us actually active on here day to day, and maybe 25+ lurking around but, not particularly active and many more who just don’t log on anymore….i literally had a kid tell me at a stop light, “ hey mister, I hate ‘80s cars”. No joke. The interest just isn’t there over all; unfortunately.

Anecdotally, this last summer a M-body popped up in my neighborhood for $1,800 if i remember correctly. Mismatched body panels, needing brake and carb work; I offered $800 and got told I was crazy…same guy is now trying to sell the car for $700, but won’t sell it to me…because I laughed at him and offered him $400 :) about $50 more than the local junk yards will take it for.

It doesn't look as bad as it sounded being bought as a parts car but with the rust it has its probably worth around whatever you paid for it.
It's usually only the ones in really good condition that are worth a bit and even then it needs the righgt buyer to see it.
A 4 speed RT should make it more desirable then a normal one but unless it's in good shape to start with a lot of people would go for a clean solid car and build it into what they want instead.
It's definitely worth trying to find someone who's want it for what it is over parting it out.

Thanks folks, probably going in a corner for a while, I hate selling stuff for reasons many of you can appreciate. I love muscle cars so any V8 4 speed car the is half salvageable is worth saving if we can. I'll leave this up in case the right buyer sees it they can contact me, not really looking to sell or make bank on it, just would like it to go to a good home if it's not gonna stay with me. I try to post the fender tag for those who track these things. I have most of my other cars on the appropriate registries and would register this one it a registry exist. PM for the next week or so or email me if I go MIA.

thanks again, have a great day!

There are a lot of blow hards and suckers on Facebook who think these cars are valuable. These are cars for enthusiasts and hobbyists. Something to have a lot of fun with and not worry about destroying the value.

Pictures of the underside would be a help if you are wanting a guestipraisal. Also, under the dash might need to be looked at for animal damage. If the underside isn't super scary you should be able to get $2-3K for it depending on how hard you try. You are correct in not parting it out unless it's horrible underneath. If that's the case, you could do pretty good on parts. I'm hoping someone fixes it right. I would hate to see that rot under a tree or get parted out.

$700 Fifth Avenue. "Runs strong but needs carb rebuild". . What the heck does that even mean? Runs strong?

It means all the brake, vacuum, ignition, fuel system, suspension, and any other 36+ year old bits of rubber need to be replaced, lmfao

And he probably didn't piece that front end back together the right way, so it rattles and squeaks under 30mph and makes a strange humming sound above 55
