In the UK vehicle over 40 years old become exempt from our vehicle excise duty tax, and are no longer subject to an annual roadworthiness inspection. Can I determine when mine was built to the precise date from the VIN or is there another way I can find out? It seems it was first registered in the UK in 1997 btw. The 10th digit "E" indicates 1984 model year, and the registration plate with the "A" prefix shows it as a 1983/84 model, the month of manufacture is what I need to find out.
Thanks in advance,
Roger.

It might say on the label on the drivers door if its legible. Pretty much he only way from the VIN is if a dealer runs it and the info is still available.
E is 1984 model year like you said.
