Hi !

I´ve got a 318 in a F-body.

the engine is running well, when it´s running. :eusa_shifty:

but to start the engine, I have ti idle a long time.

:sad7:

I´m using my Volare only for the weekend, so it spends a lot time in the garage.

When I start the car, I´ve got the feeling, it didn´t get gasoline well.

After ideling about a minute or two, it starts and everything is fine.

Where did the gasoline go, when the car is parked ?
What can I do to keep it in the carburator and the fuel lines ?
Has anybody ever had the same problem ?
I have the feeling, it leakes back in the tank. :icon_pale:
What does usualy keep it in the fuel lines ?

Thank You for any Ideas !

mechanical pump has a check valve. If that goes bad fuel drains back and cranking time increases to fill the bowl.

won't the needle and seat keep it from draining the bowl? Could it be evaporating out the vent port if not connected to the vapor canister?

What happened to me on a Holley carb was the check weight underneath the shooter got stuck and I had to pour gas down the carb to start it. That 10-20 enthanol they put in our gas tends to do that.

I may had mentioned this one little trick, but can't recall. There are these neat little plastic hats 5 1/4 inch round cereal bowls. I see them on TV and Summitracing sells them as well JEGS and others. I took some of my wifes good tupperware bowls that were 5 1/4, drilled a 1/4 inch hole in the center and walla - a carb hat. What this neat little thing does is when you park the car for a while, pull off the airfilter top and slide this down on it. It will keep the gas from carmelizing in the carb. Also, as mentioned here the ethanol is really messing with a good tune on the carbs. That hat contraption helps. My plymouth has been sitting around the garage as it goes back together. 3 pumps of the pedal and she'll start right up.

I think he is saying "idle" but means to say "cranking"

As in the car needs alot of cranking to get fuel into the carb.

If the car sits for long periods of time the gas is evaporating, or draining from the bowl.

Before cranking, check to see if the pump shot is squirting fuel.

No pump shot means a dry bowl.

I have a 87 Diplomat I've owned for yrs that if it sits for a week in the heat, it just doesn't suck up the fuel.
Drive it every day...never a problem.

I just know better now, drop some gas down the carb and I'm good to go.
No point wasting the battery and starter.

I blame the cam lope being worn.
I did the fuel pump and it's always the same...just with that 87.
My 79 Lebaron coupe can sit for months and still it fires over quickly.
