Headlight wiring question

Just the front? Are the tail lights still on?
Does your car have the foot switch or the stalk switch for high beams?

I'm thinking that there is a short in the high beam circuit somewhere. The headlight switch (not high beam switch) has a self-resetting circuit breaker internally.

Try unplugging both high beam headlights and then switch the high beams on. If all the other lights stay on then, yes a short in the headlight (or connector). Then try each headlight separately unplugged. That will narrow it down to which side has the issue.

I have seen both bad connectors and bad headlights cause problems.

turns off all the lights
I had a similar problem with my '88 Diplomat. When I turned on the high beams, the headlights would go out. Pretty exciting on a hilly two-lane blacktop! It turned out the wire going to one high-beam had worn through the insulation and grounded out right behind the headlight.
