I had a different QD problem with my 1996 F150. Somebody installed the wrong fuel filter with short inlet/outlet tubes. There was no room to use the QD release tool. I had to destroy the filter to put the proper one in. I also had to replace the QD retaining clips inserts (stainless). I packed grease in to keep the ice melt/steel oxidizer out.
