Our poor mothers. The reason we had Green Thunder in the first place was because the 4-speed manual transaxle was being replaced on Mom's '84 Escort. Again. Between my sisters and I, that may have been the most-abused car in history. I regularly had that car 5-6' in the air, and I can tell you with certainty that the car would go 67MPH in first gear.

I can tell you that a Turbo I "K car was a match for the early 5.0 Mustangs, up to about 85, then they had more top end......... but not much more......:D

I only lost one drag race in that Escort, to my friend's '74 Nova 350. Laugh all you want, but I mostly raced trucks.

At night.

Down logging trails.

Preferably during breakup. :D

When I graduated high school, my friend Matt had a Plymouth almost identical to mine. His was an 86 and a base not a salon, with 230K miles on an unrebuilt LB 318. We gave that car 10 kinds of hell for about 18 months (not to mention the 10+ years of abuse his older brothers had given it). That thing would not die. It handled like a tank too. we used to take WV36 from Amma WV to Spencer WV (where he lived) at speeds only Steve McQueen would think were safe. Dirt roads? No problem. Bumps, holes, curbs, small animals, moose (j/k)? no problem. what a glorious POS that car was. he traded it in for a Scion TC about 4 years ago with almost 280K on it and it didn't miss a beat. it was a little down on power and used a quart of oil every 1500 miles though

EDIT: we would jump it on the regular on the dirt road by his house, and in his yard, through his creek, in the woods you name it that car hit it.

This scene has made the rounds on here a few times but always worth another watch.

Now this is an M taking a beating.

If you've not seen that movie, it's worth a watch for more than just the chase scene. It's pretty entertaining.
