So the original starter finally gave up. Found a 98 Dakota new on marketplace for 30 bucks. The more I took apart the more problems I have. Wire harness fell apart. I’ve remade the harness now. Both mounting bolts / studs were stuck and needed an impact to get them off. Waiting on a thread chaser to come in to clean them up. The stud came out when I tried to get the nut off. Since life happens and simple projects take way more time then thought I can’t remember if the stud was on top or bottom. I want to say bottom from the service manual pictures I have but I’m not sure. The stud it self is in ruff shape anyone use just bolts or have a source for a new stud ? Thank you in advance for your time.

Thank you for the reply, I was talking about the starter mounting stud and bolt. The Dakota one didn’t have the black terminal relocation pc.

The stud isn't needed and can be replaced with a bolt. It's only there to make it easier to install the starter. Not as bad with the mini starter but with the bigger one you're holding it in place with one hand trying to get the first bolt in blind with the other.
