Rear deck speaker mount

I removed the rear deck speakers and I'm trying to figure out a better way than 3-4" machine screws ran through the package tray like the way they were. Can I use a u-nut to mount them from the bottom instead of straight through the package tray?

(using pic as an example.)

Yes. That's how mine are mounted. Don't remember off hand if I have the u-nuts on the pkg tray with screws going up or the other way around with u-nuts on the speakers and the screws pointing down though:confused:

The previous owner messed the tray up pretty bad, so I'm going from the trunk up. Kind of like the instrument panel bezel is mounted. Run the screws through the bottom side of the speaker into the metal section of the package tray where I'll put the u-nuts. Wish me luck.
