The service manual is quite clear on how-to (remove instrument bezel and upper dash trim). But it missed the removal glove box (easy) and (at least loosening the upper part) of the lower dash trim - both sides!....
You can't just take the long vent channel (behind the glove box) out, as it is screwed into the lower dash trim from behind... See pictures. I was lucky to secure a NOS cable. Now it works again.

While at it, I replaced the monaural dash speaker with a Retrosound stereo speaker. The new radio arrived today and will be mounted the coming days. That's just some cables and screws.

Good thing is: it's all screws and no junk "plastic-click-broken" sh*t as in todays "cars".

I've been looking at one of those RetroSound radios for awhile. They look really nice.
I'll be following this thread, my HVAC fans are only working on the defrost setting.

All I've got is the original AM/FM stereo (what are they, 4 watts per channel?) with new speakers. Not exactly the best sounding thing. I'm sure it hasn't improved in the 42 years since was made either, lol. Then again, I rarely have the radio on when driving the Aspen anyways but still...........................

Holy crap, just realied my car is 42 years old:eek:

I've replaced mine with the tape/CD radio from a 90s mopar. Apparently some of the newer style radios from the 2000s also fit but aren't rectangle so you have to cut the dash up a bit to make them work. I was always curious to try one and even bought the wiring adapter but never went thru with it.
