Will a steering column from an F or J body fit a 78 M body. I want to put a floor shift column in the LeBaron. Anybody have one?

J-body /6 steering columns are 1" shorter than J-body V8 columns, meaning the rag joint on a V8 column is 1" further away from the firewall.

I found that out 20 years ago while swapping a /6 K-frame to a V8 K-frame in a Mirada. This was way before the conversion motor mounts were available.

I have a few F body floor shift columns. By the way, don't forget that in 80 the dimmer switch went up on the column, so that kinda leaves the J bodies out for your 78.

I have seen people cut the nub off the column and wrap the left over with a piece of metal and paint it.If you are nut fussy leave the seam at the bottom or do finish body work to it.
