I was removing the truck oil pan to install the car mid sump and just happened to get out from under the engine. Moments later, the chain jump- kinda slid and the motor came down. I was not under it, but was about to start removing the oil pump. The chain had a kink in it that flattened out and that was enough to get it all jumping. Oddly, the exhaust y pipe save the engine from any impact damage. The windage tray never hit the ground. I'm still in "Need a cigarette" mode.

So I still have to get the oil pump off to switch out the pickup tube. Maybe i'm not seeing it any other way - but to remove the pump.

neither a smoker or a drinker, but definitely a come to Jesus realization. Cleaned my tools the rest of the afternoon. Probably need to separate the trans from the motor at the near future for more move-ability.

At home, I'm usually working alone and tend to use a belt and suspenders for everything.

You are correct, the pump has to come off to change the pickup tube.
