Hello:

What is the best method for replacing the wiper arm bushings on an 85 Diplomat with intermittent wipers?

Using Dorman 49440 bushings.
Dorman Products - CS37493

All four are deteriorated and need replaced.

I have the arm from the motor to the drivers side out and new bushings pressed in. Picking up another set of bushings tonight....but what is the best way to put it back together????

thanks

I changed the bushes in my 1984 5th Avenue a few years ago. Put it back the way it came off, I don't recall having any difficulty doing this. I put a little multi purpose grease in the bushes before I put them back. I don't know if did any good, but I don't think it did any harm.

The easiest way to do it is to remove the wiper pivots, and assemble everything on the bench, then install the whole linkage assy back into the cowl in one piece.

Got it all back together and working. Didn’t realize at first that I needed to remove the wiper pivots. Once I did that it was straight forward. Used the Dorman bushings as they were available at my local AutoZone. Was able to use the vice to press some, and a squeeze clamp for others.

All operational again!

Thanks again for the help.

It helps also if you stick the bushing in hot water a few seconds. Makes them easier to pop on the ball stud or press them into the link.

Kind of late, but I just now remembered it.

Was wondering if hot or cold water would work better. Thanks
