Won't kick off high idle

1979 Aspen 360 w Thermoquad. Car starts fine but idle's high and wont come off high idle unless i push screw down manually. I have cleaned it and even sprayed silicone on it.

What am i missing ? Thanks

Have same issue on a 78. I believe the shaft is worn but I haven`t taken the carb off yet to investigate Already replaced the choke and control. I think the butterflies hang up

Check to make sure all the choke parts are working properly and everything moves freely.

The choke spring and rod could need to be replaced. You can try disconnecting that from the carb and see if it moves as the engine warms up.
