Fuel tank sender

if you're new to f-bodies, you'll find that some parts are readily available or not too hard to find, while others are made from unobtainium or a material pretty close to that. ('78/'79 Aspen grilles are one example of unobtainium and/or unaffordium)
 
3879683 is the part number for the sender for 76/77 early. A different number for cars with California emissions and 4002333 is the part number for the earlier hump tank.
 
If you are not sure if you have an early or late '77 - look in the trunk.
If the spare tire well is round, you have an early '77 tank (with hump).

If spare tire well is more square shaped, you have a late '77 tank (flat tank top)

Sender was okay, the ring clamp seal was leaking. new ones for the 77 Volare kept coming in too big. So I ordered a 73 E body and it fit perfect, yet still leaks. I got Permatex fuel resist sealer and applied it all over the inside and outside of the O ring and clamp. Haven't let the car back end down yet to see if it worked.
 
Check to be sure the locking tabs on the tank aren't bent outwards or the lock ring isn't deformed where the tabs contact it. The ring should require a decent amount of "persuasion" with a hammer and punch to get locked all the way. Otherwise there won't be enough clamping pressure on the seal.

You need either a good used locking ring or a NOS one. The aftermarket rings are no good from what I have found.

Yes, it did not seem to get as tight as others I have installed.
Winter time here so I will not get back to it until spring.
I'll detail the old one and see how it compares with the after market one.
