6 inches of snow and nothing on Cable or Satellite. I mean "Beaches", "the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" and other really bad meaningless reality shows. Already played in the snow, so what to do?

So I'll cue up the Car flicks. This one from 1978:

I snuck in 'Used Cars' on the netflix account... lets see if it comes in or gets knocked off the list.

LOL, the cop when he was going up the on ramp "Come on you piece of shit!"
Regardless, nothing like the sound of a 4 barrel WFO.
Back then the average squad car topped out about 110 mph and they didn't have no more! Still always amazes me when these criminals think they can get away by outrunning the police. No matter what you've done, running is only going to make it worse and in 95% of the cases, they WILL get you.

I caught that too.
How about the 'help' into the backseat when caught?
Or the cars overheating at the end.

I used to moonshine, so out running cops was routine back then.
At one time you could outrun a radio, but radios got more range.

That's the main difference between a regular car and a Police package one, the cooling system. Same engines with the exact same hp and torque as civilian models but a bigger cooling system so they don't overheat on high speed runs.

I had a video of a chase up on the west side of Wausau from the early hours of Jan 1st but I can't get the damn thing to embed or even link to it (on a local TV station site). Oh well, it wasn't as exciting as yours but the perp didn't get away. He clipped the left snowbank on a right curve and missed the left hander part of the "S". Too bad, the loser..................

Here we go, found it posted on You Tube also. Not sure what the Wausau PD has for squads but most likely the same as all the other dept's in the area, either Taurus, Impala, Charger, Explorer, Durango or Trailblazer. Whichever, it seems to have fairly decent snort to it for what sounds like a 6 banger.

I used to watch a police series when younger, in which a black detective/town sheriff was driving around in a blue Plymouth Gran Fury. This was a LONG time ago, late Eighties or early Nineties. What was the name of this show if anybody recognizes it from this? For the love of God, I cannot remember.

This series was the reason I got hooked up in this body style. I have always also been a 2 door guy to the absolute but the Gran Fury/Diplomat is the only body style to me when a 4D looks better than the 2D. Dunno why but that's how it is to me.

Anybody remember the CHP Mustangs that they used to use as pursuit vehicles? Stupid high rear end gears (something like a 2.21:1) along with a 5 speed manual. Just over idle rpm, they were doing over 60 mph in top gear. Used them to chase down some of the exotics/supercars, got them, always.

Dr. Lebaron, outrun a radio, huh? Have you considered talking with NASA, I'm sure that they would be interested in how you managed to exceed the speed of light, as would most theoretical physicists.

Even I know how to outrun that radio.
If you are in the mountains in West Virginia, running moonshine, those radio waves don't go through the dirt.

Cell coverage is non-existent in much of Maine cause the big boys are too cheap to provide coverage (put in poles and maintain them) when the population density is too low.

Its a matter of knowing which switchback to take, people are basically too lazy to think outside the regular path, and have a buddy to trust that can either run interference or distract the cop.

Just a magic show with drivers in cars instead of a guy on the stage.

Plus it helps to have a healthy dose of adrenaline running through your veins.

Radios used to be max 4 watts and antilog.
Easy to out run 4 watts on hills and valleys.

Then I had a modified CB radio with a power mic and a linear, so I'd just blow him off the air.
Also had the scanner running.

Radio systems are digital now, so that stuff doesn't work.

It was really a Nova, and I'll stick to the story.
Too bad they couldn't get a make or partial plate.

Much of that is based on using cell technology. The cops up here don't do that, it is a dedicated police radio on a police band. So the cell coverage, while undoubtedly true, doesn't impact coverage, neither does the 4W limitation, as they own the band, and they can use whatever power they want. Up here, cell coverage is a lot worse than most places in the US, and the cops can't rely on it, either in certain spots in the city (terrain), or outside the city. It isn't CB radio, either. So. sorry for my ignorance of what is the status in the US, but up here, you are not going to outrun a radio signal.

Ya, but there was no cell phone 40 yrs ago.
So your not making a cell phone call in 1978.
If people read-At one time you could outrun a radio,
I didn't say you could today.
Our cops use digital and scramblers today.

My Grandpa and uncle used to run spirits into Oklahoma back when state was dry (until early '60's or so) and they clipped a few of newspaper stories like that.

My dad told a story when he was 12 (or so) which would have been in mid ‘50’s, his brother (my uncle) listened to a news story on the radio of police shooting at a “runner” and riddled the car full of bullet holes during the chase, that got away. They looked at the car they described on the radio, and surprisingly, the vehicle description was accurate, except there were no holes in his car.

He also said they kept separate tags on car for running use and other for normal use.

Outrunning a radio 3+ decades ago - very possible. Now days, not so much.

Dr Lebaron, how old is that news clip?
Also, any chance you happen to know the driver of the vehicle in question?

Justwondering, sounds like you have a hint of experience.

May be able to "out run" the radio but I don't think anyone has outrun the helicopter. Once it has it's camera locked on, you are caught even if you jump out and run on foot. If it's night, the gazillion watt light will be aimed at you and if that fails, the FLIR thing will keep tabs unless you are so cold blooded a criminal, you have no body heat. So there:p
