1987 Chrysler Fifth Avenue with the 318 in it.

Wires have been chewed off to the base of the plug so I need:

1. Voltage regulator plug (triangle shaped) with enough wire to it so I can butt-splice it to the harness

2. Low pressure switch plug (round) goes into the silver expansion valve on the firewall with enough wire to it so I can butt-splice it to the harness

3. Lid to the windshield fluid bottle - or just a replacement fluid bottle with a good lid.

4. Then there is a small black box just in front of the expansion valve that has 2 of the 3 wires chewed off at the black box (yellow and purple are gone ).

5. The large rectangular plug just in front of the black box in #4 previous. I don't know what the plug goes to or from. Will have to research this as well.

I'll go get pictures before I lose daylight.

Sigh, those three blind mice don’t know when to give up, do they?

The voltage regulator plug is available on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/P16-1970-1991-Chrysler-Plymouth-Dodge-electronic-voltage-regulator-repair-plug/162935860136?epid=1540005817&hash=item25efbbeba8:g:5nMAAOSwv0tVTT0Z&vxp=mtr
There might be other sources as well – but I doubt you will be able to beat that price.

I’m sure someone out there has a cracked/broken washer tank that could be used for the lid. If you do need the tank – they make them with or without the fluid level sensor.
I would guess yours has the washer level sensor in it.

Trying to see if I have some pictures that can be of use, for you.

I'll need the one with the fluid level sensor.

Will also have to get a new choke heater assembly since the wire is chewed really close to the bimetallic part and completely chewed off at the spade connector.

I'm trying a new mix of cayenne pepper, garlic and onion spray as well as the moth balls.

Hopefully that will help slow them down.

I have your choke thermostat (which has the wire and spade terminal) - which is waiting for me to, um, mail it back to you . . .

Also, I have a washer fluid container - but it is not in the best of condition and in far corner of my garage. I might have a lid - maybe. I saw my spare . . . about six years ago . . . maybe.

Bud...
I should probably buy you one of these nearly dead fifth avenues and trailer it to you... between the two of us we could part it out for what we need.

Heck, I could take the entire wiring harness and it would be worth the cost.

lol

There is a chance I might have a complete underhood wiring harness for an ’84 or ’86 Fifth Ave – hidden deep in my garage somewhere. I originally got it (10 years ago) to modify, for my big block conversion (as well as extract Lean Burn and a lot of the emissions components in the process) – shortly after I decided to install a big block. I thought modifying another factory harness and having it ready to install would be faster/easier than modifying the cars original harness - on the spot.

The problem is – I hadn’t seen that harness in some time – so maybe my mind is playing tricks on me . . .
If I do have it – it hasn’t been touched (altered) by me (yet).

Sense that time, I got ahold of a wiring harness from a ’84 Gran Fury police car - that would be easier to modify/better for my situation.

So – if I can find the above mentioned harness – you are welcome to it. The police harness is different and will not fit your car.

I’d be happy to look for it – but I have a busy weekend, this weekend.

On a different note, I suspect several of the pigtails you are needing, uses normal female spade connectors – but would like to look at your damaged areas to confirm. If so, the wiring might not be too difficult to fix

I have been considering the “getting a car for parts / or to drive car” – but just not yet in a position to do so (pickup needs worn out ball joints replaced and few other issues that need resolved, before long distance trips, first).

I hear that BudW.

I just received my first 2 orders for window rehab.
I still need to get cat whiskers but I have 96 inches of channel and 96 inches of weatherstripping.

Figured I'd give it a go to fix the rear passenger door and test out the products to see which works best.

The Chrysler will remain where it is until I have all this wiring issue sorted out.

If I run across a silver Fifth Avenue for a decent price, I'll get it and pull what I need. If you want the remainder, I'll bring it up to you. Maybe we can both get something out of this.

Whatever you find that looks helpful, just let me know and I'll make it right with you.

I'm gonna give this a go again.
I purchased the replacement plug for the voltage regulator.

I just removed the plug for the low pressure cutoff switch ... the wires are chewed to short to reuse the plug so I'm going to get one of those.

--- All this damage is at the passenger side of the firewall.

Now, if I read my manual right, just below the squared off, rectangular expansion valve is a round cylinder. Two bolts are holding a small black box onto the bracket/side of the expansion valve.

So the last two things I'm looking at are:
1. A wire coming out of the round cylinder (which I think is the ignition coil) anyhow, one wire is completely chewed in two.
Can I safely butt splice a jumper between the iginition coil line and the short end of the wire still left in the wiring harness?

2. The small black box that had two short bolts holding it to the expansion valve has 3 blue wires coming out of it and going to a huge connector about 1 1/2 inches wide with 3 wide prongs inside the end.
Is this a relay or a sensor of some type? I'll see if I can get a decent picture and attach.
The other side of this story is that it looks like a prior owner has butchered the harness and removed the receiving side of the connector. In its place are two smaller, individual connectors that were pushed on to just two of the prongs.
My guess here is they were trying to keep things running without having to buy a new wide connector.

My brother looked the black box over carefully and said he couldn't get any numbers off it but it does say RAYCO on the side. He thinks it is a relay. Also thinks it was used for for than one device but the prior owner must have rigged it to work with this car... perhaps this isn't originally designed for this car.

It looks like there were originally 5 wires --- 2 black on one side, 1 blue in the middle (probably ground?), and 2 blue on the other side. So the black box had 5 wires coming out of it originally and three of the wires going to the big honking connector.

Well crud... I didn't notice it but I hit the wrong button, I have several pictures of my hat, the sky, and part of my face -- nothing of the engine bay. Sigh...

Let me go take pictures again. lol

I got Darth Car to go out and look at his engine compartment.
He asked me tons of questions and we swapped pictures.

I believe the black box is the A/C Clutch Cycle Temperature Switch.

There is a cooper heavy wire in a tube that terminates with a chewed off black wire.
He thinks this was an aftermarket replacement since the word Ranco on the side isn't MOPAR normal.

Apparently there is a small black box on a bracket on the side of the Expansion valve which has two wire connectors that go to the wiring harness and one wire to this tube sensor. I don't know about the other two wires.

Need a part number for it so I can get one ordered.

This is what I think I have the remains of:
NEW RANCO E56-1001-0302 A/C Clutch Cycle Temperature Switch | eBay

ranco clutch temp switch.jpg

This one has 6 wires and the one I have has a hole where a wire could have been and some pieces of 5 wires. The connector looks nothing alike though.

I don’t recall seeing a part like that, before.

Attached are copies of the A/C system and don’t see anything like that, there, either.
The SATC wiring diagram was not attached – but it is all under dash (so not applicable).

Its called a 'cycling Clutch Switch' and on page 24-13 of my 87 service manual.
Has a capillary tube that goes in the capillary tube well of the suction line which is bolted to the 'H' valve.

I'll try to upload a picture. Internet has been stupid slow and cranky since the thunder and lightning earlier this week.

I spent a lot of time flipping pages until I finally saw it.
O'Reillys can't get the part so that mean I'm going to have to go to EBay or get a used part from somewhere.

I think the reason I'm having trouble is the original one had the two prongs (terminals) on the body of the box. I need one that has a connector to reach the wiring harness connectors. Probably all this has been redone more than once.

Personally, I wouldn’t worry about the wide electrical connector. In your case, I would get some normal ¼” wide female spade connectors and plug them directly onto the switch.

Most switches do not care which wire goes where – just as long as wires attach to same circuit (and not to windshield washer pump, or to turn signals, etc.).

Having the proper connector is nice – but is by no means a requirement – especially after you place a few Claymore mines around your car to keep the mice away (or else).

Try dryer sheets mice don't like and stay away from them
