My '85 Gran Fury was built without a/c so it has the floor vent on the left side, I've noticed the f-bodies also have one on the right side, it seems they got rid of that by the mid-'80s I knew of an '87 Diplomat back in CT that was also a non-a/c car and only had the vent on the left side. Inside the cowl it has the vents on both sides, living in Florida now I'd love to add the right side vent, just wondering how hard it'd be to do, and how hard it'd be to find a right side vent

There is a better picture of this area on thread https://www.forfmjbodiesonly.com/classicmopar/threads/heater-box-removal-a-c-1980-f-body.6464/#post-72252 post #12.

This picture is from that post.

What you see is the firewall. There is another part that goes on top of that for the Cowl (which hides the wiper linkage).

On the Left side of picture (Right side of car) there is a 1 inch high lip that is “D” shaped over a large hole. That hole is for the main ventilation system for outside air.

On vehicles with Left side outside air vents (no A/C cars), there is a similar system on driver’s side and an air box that bolts from underneath the dash.

Generally, people want to install the Left side vent on cars (like myself).

The area between the firewall and cowl sees a lot of water (when it rains) – which is why the 1” high lip present.

I “think” a person needs to find an older heater-only case and cable, like out of an F-body, and I would assume it should bolt right in place.
Honestly, I hadn’t seen very many no A/C M-bodies to look at, at least not in Oklahoma - so not 100% sure on interchange - but I do know that '76-89 F & M body no A/C firewalls are all the same.

With that said, I happen to have drove my no A/C F-body to work today (93’ F).

When you say heater only case and cable do you mean the vent itself?

The vent (only) would be on the Left side.
The passenger side would be the heater case and vent (or at least the older M-body). You mentioned yours does not have a vent for Right side. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve seen a after ‘80ish non-A/C M-body in these here parts – so I don’t recall exactly.
That said, I would find an older (F-body or early M-body heater case assembly and get the corresponding cables, install it into car and you should be set.
Here is what my heater case looks like under dash (installed) – for reference.

Knob is black (red arrow). The door was open with sun shinning on it (I guess why it looks blue, in the photo).

Note: there is not a lot that holds the heater case in the car - so (in my opinion) a fairly easy job to change out).

And for Left side:

Thanks for the pictures and info, when I can afford a new heater box (if ever) I'll probably have some more questions
