Is it possible to run a kill switch of some sort to keep the interior lights off when the doors are open? It would make things a lot easier for me if I could have the doors open with no lights...

I have a small spring loaded tool that fits between the switch and the door.

Yes, it would be fairly simple.
If you remove the left kick panel, there's a 9 pin connector. The pink and yellow wires (pink is 18 ga and yellow is 20 ga) go to the dome lamp. You can cut one or the other and wire your switch in series. Doesn't matter which side of the connector you hook to. I'd suggest using the yellow wire since it's ground (eventually, after it goes through the door jamb switches). This will let you disable the roof dome lamp. If you have a map light, those can be turned off by moving the switch to the center. It's not really a switch position but in the center neither contact is touching.
Alternate method, which would disable both the dome and map lamps and any other interior lights with your switch would be to cut and splice into the yellow wires at both door jamb switches which would interrupt the path to ground.
EDIT: I just noticed you have an '85 Gran Fury but chances are the wiring is the same or similar to an F-body.

Disconnect the battery cable? if you are going to needing this constantly, then add the switch. if Its something like installing an interior in a day, then disconnecting the battery for the day seems simpler. Only thing that may be a hassle is that your radio (depending on the radio) may lose its time/date and station presets. It isn't like modern cars with fuel injection computers/radios/driver information center/compass/navigation/etc. losing all their settings.

Thanks I'll be trying this in the next few days, the dome light has both the pink and yellow wires funny how little things changed over the years on these cars

That's one thing I always liked about Chrysler products, they never changed things just for the sake of change, unlike some other car companies. If it worked, they left it alone for years and years. They also liked to use the same part for many models over many years. The modern Chrysler products, I can't say that about very often.

Ok, I found the plug for the dome light and under-dash wires are right next to it in the driver's side kick panel, so I wired them both in to the switch: it didn't work, they stayed on no matter what. After trying a few different things I found that for some reason the switch will only work with one set of wires: either dome light or under-dash light will work at once not both. Is there some way to make them both work without another kill switch?
