Here are two interesting cars.

These are Mexican Spec Plymouth Volares.

I wasn't sure if I should post them in the F Body section or the M Body section as they use the rear end of a Diplomat.

The blue car has a front bench seat while the red car is said to have buckets, but not shown.

Which car do you prefer?

This is tough because i prefer the color blue, but i'm gonna go with the red on red combo. Plus i really dig those wheels.

These cars are a terrific example of parts bin engineering. The bodies themselves are definitely "M" body, but the front header panel and the instrument panels are "F" body. Obviously with the red car having the cast aluminum wheels, it means somebody in purchasing got a little heavy handed with the order for those wheels and they were shipped to Mexico to use them up.

I don't think it worked like that. Mexico was very much closed at that time.

I doubt parts were going back and forth and Mexico sure wouldn't nave accepted the left overs.

You can see in many ways how Mexico made their cars different that the US cars to set them apart.

It would have been much easier to make the car exactly like the US cars were being made but they didn't do that.

The MEXICO badges on the red car show that.

Ford was the same way.

Would love to get a Mexican M body coupe. Like the Magnum or Dart. Hard to beat with a factory 360 making 300+Hp.

It would have to be the Magnum because all the Darts had the Slant 6.

It is like the Super Bee had the V8 and the Valiant Duster had the Slant 6.

He's not talking about left overs. It means they already had the parts and put them together differently. It's an M body shell with f body interior and front.

The way I read it he was talking specifically about the wheels being left overs or they had too many so they were sent to Mexico.

I don't think it worked that way at the time.

Ok gotcha. Yeah.i think those rims were specifically ordered for the Mexican market to make the cars appear sportier. Same as the cone mirrors like the blue one has.

One thing I’ve noticed looking at these cars pictured and listings on FB for these cars, it seems a majority of the Mexican F/M cars only have the drivers side view mirror.

A lot of the early non Mexican ones also only had one mirror. It was only standard on 5th avenues and the fully optioned cars so the rest deoended on how it was ordered.

Have never seen a F/M/J in the states without both side mirrors. Myself anyway.

For a long time a right hand side mirror wasn't required if you could see out the back window.

People are no longer able to turn their heads to look out the back, so the mirror is required.

Very aware. As I said in my post, I’ve never personally seen one in the US that didn’t have both mirrors.
