Likely the carbon brush inside the motor.

They are available and exchange is not to hard, once you got the motor out.
Did that myself on a 79 LeBaron.

If the spring is broke, use half of a pencils spring.

The common cause is the gear or bushings in the motor end but lately it seems that some people are having problems with the roller on the metal arm that makes it go up and down.

It had a worn out clutch so I just purchased a new motor assembly from Rock Auto as it was not much more than a new clutch assembly.

I had the issue on my 80 diplomat, 2dr. Went to rockauto and they had the internal gear for the window motor. I replaced this and took care of the issue. Good spare part to get now.

9/16" Nylon rod cut into 3 little rollers and some grease

My bet is that you lost a plastic puck in the gear head...so you have 2 instead of 3 making it jump.

We're all excited to hear which of the list of possibilities made it.

And good luck with the repair.

I also like to hit the window frame tracks wits spray silicon to help the windows slide in the tracks easier, and condition help soften the guides
