Hey guys! New member here. Some of you might know me from other forums as there is only one of me with this user name that I know of.

This is my latest project.

I picked this car up from a guy whi had it listed for sale for over 4 years and it had sat for over 15 after it's engine was pulled and if I hadn't had bought it and hauled it home that weekend it was going to the crusher.

Going to be building it into a Thunder Stock Class Stock Car to race at our local 3/8 mile clay oval track.

The stripping process begins. Luckly the car came without seats or carpet so that was a bonus! It turned out to be a very solid car needing only very minor body panel rust repair and only one very small frame patch.

All the good bits saved (Switches etc.) and all fit in one small box, the rest went to the dump including the steering column with was smashed after the previous owner lost the keys.

Header panel removed and is going to be replaced with an '80 to match the car me and my co-workers built for our shop. With is a 1980 Cordoba, the door skins have been cut out as I will only need the outer sheet steel to cover the roll cage.

All pressure washed and clean.

Next step is to do some mods to the front suspension and K-frame mounts, radius the RF fender arch and start welding in the cage.

WOW what a good looking car ya ended with... Ya running the '18? think i would have used a 360 but that just me... How does it do in comparo to all de chebbies if they are allowed in that class... (some thunder classes dont allow them) Seeing all this roundy rounder stuff on the various boards ALMOST want to make me build another... But I used to try to use up all the chebbies i could.. (ran 3rd gen 'maros) Figured one more off the street wouldnt matter...lol I do like to see the Mopars and even the Fords do well, when they do.. Most everyone runs chebbies so the knowledge base/notes on non-GM based cars are few and far between.... There hasnt been a successful ran mopar or ford ran here in a long long time...

PS I have a '77 Newport that NOW looks like it has ran a few times @ a track now. Was totaled sitting in front of my house a couple 3 weeks ago...

Also might want to re-size yer pics as they are HUGE!! ;)

I'll be running a 360 4bbl 904 8.25 with 2.45 gears and running the car in first gear the whole time.

The car will become a 1980 and therefor I will be able to take advantage of the E58 option which was still available in 1980 as our cars have to conform to the engine rules when going away from an O.E.M configuration (View the Rules here. RULES LINK <--) unless it's how the car could have come back in the day from the factory in which case you are allowed when every the factory could have put in it as an option.

Sorry about the pics, they don't appear to large on my screen, I have since re-sized all my posted pics.

Here are some of the cars I race against.

1978 Buick Regal Canadian model with an Oldsmobile 307 4bbl after it's original 350 Buick 4bbl blew up.
DSC00208-1-1.jpg

1973 Chev Caprice 4dr 350 4bbl, uses up at least one engine per season (due mostly to lack of mechanical ability and quality of parts the owner/drive/mechanic uses.) but when it's running good it's actually quite fast due to it's size beats the crap out of the rest of our cars almost demo derby style.
DSC00189.jpg

1987 Chrysler 5th Ave, 360 2bbl which is the largest engine you are allowed to run in a Dodge and restricted to a 2bbl carb according to our away from stock modification in the rules. Since this picture it has changed owners and has received a General Lee paint job.
DSC00190.jpg

1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass 350 Chev 2bbl following the same engine rule as the 5th ave. Since this picture it has been run in a demo style enduro, changed owners and has returned to our track battered and bruised.
DSC00177.jpg

1974 Mercury Cougar XR7 460 4bbl, following the same O.E.M section on the rules I will be. It's a pretty decent race car even though it doesn't have the best handling. It was brand new un-raced in this pic, it's ALOT rougher looking now. Smashed, caught fire etc.
DSC00191.jpg

I have come to the realization I need some updated photos of these cars.

Next year will see the arrival of my car and my friends 1992 Buick Roadmaster with a 5.7L TBI Chev V8.

Should be some damn good racing next year! :eusa_dance:

Nice to see your making good use of otherwise used up cars. You ever do one up as a driver or just for racing?

I like the little Cordoba's for racing but am not very interested in them as a cruiser, not a big fan of 2 door cars for everyday life.

This is my toy. Other then my Power Wagon and Dakota.

1979 New Yorker, Triple Teal Green, 360 4bbl headers, duals, aluminum intake and valve covers, B&M shift kit. The wheels came off the brown Cordoba.

Always been a wagon man myself . Love to have yours .

Thank you, sadly nature has taken most of it now so it is just another parts car.

Nice R-body. Hard to find any of those. They made 54,640 of those New Yorkers in 79. Where the hell did they all go?

To the derby most likey.

I bought that one from an insurance company's salvage yard for $125, it looked like this when I bought it. I also bought that white Dodge D150 in the background.

I found out fixing it that '79 is a one year only for a lot of parts used on this car, '80-'82 is completely different on these parts.

Out of curiousity, what happened to the 360/4-spd wagon?

-Remy-Z

Just got too rusty and run down over the years after I blew the clutch up in it about 6 years ago I was forced to park it and since I've started to part it out.

The engine will live on in this stock car.

Sounds familiar. Mine went through hell, a few rewirings, a destroyed fender, body actually split behind driver's seat from torquing over...got scrapped in 2010. I saved the pedals and rims...

The old Cougar came into our shop today to finally get a proper stock car wheel alignment. It had previously been at whatever the last owner had had for an alignment when it was still on the road.

It was difficult to help out the competition but we at the shop believe in good sportsmanship, and collecting money for wheel alignments.

As you can see from the picture above, it has acquired some very hard miles.

The engine fire last year bubbled the hood decal.
