What do you mean by" Smog ports are already plugged"? I had an 88 cop motor similar to your 87 and just put headers on it - never had to plug anything. I may be missing something, so please explain.

Smog ports are right below the exhaust ports. The factory ex manifolds cover these ports. When installing headers you simply run a 1/4X20 tap thru the gas ports and install a grub screw to plug the port.

I saw those or what may have been them. Looked like they were never drilled through or machined on mine. Maybe I had a Friday motor or something. I know the cop car they came out of was put off the road because it would not pass emissions testing, but it ran fine with no blow by.
