8 3/4 into F Body

I know that a 8 3/4 from a 68-70 B body is a good swap candidate for the F body. I just came across a rear from a '65 B body. The difference is 55 1/4 for '65 and 55 15/16 for the 68. Does the 11/16" make a difference. I plan on removing the rear suspension and replacing it with CalTrac. Thanks

OK, you should be able to get your leaf springs to bow in since the perch on the 8 3/4 is .23 on either side narrower. The axel face is wider on the 8 3/4 by .38 on either side so that is negligible. The big deal is the yoke. you have more than 2 inches added to the front on that 83/4. Now a 742 might be better than a 489 for that, but I sold my last 489 and did not compare. The 742 chunk is in my "B" rear. My B is out of a 67. The 742 chunk is out of a 73 charger. I don't plan on a snubber. I have a tall spring set and 29 inch tires, so my rear is getting distances from the trans tail by that height.

The '68-'70 being wider actually sets a stock-offset wheel opening. You won't have issues with clearance unless you're going crazy with the wheel sizes.
