If you are talking about the exterior, it probably isn"t mold. More like caked on dust or mud. My red Mirada looked similar, and I was under the impression that it needed to be completely repainted. One day, just hanging around the car after I brought it home, I wet a finger, and rubbed the paint. The black specks ( which I through were rust spots) just wiped right off. It could be mold, but wash it first with a strong soap (like dish washing soap). You'd be surprised what may be underneath. He is going to pressure wash it, it will be interesting to see what it looks like afterwards. I don't personally like metal flake paint, but if its in good shape, go with it until you can get it re-painted.
In general, it is not common to have mold grow on the outside of vehicles; interiors or trunks, definitely.
