Lol. Are you saying that something bad should have happened?
I find it hard to believe, or I just was incredibly lucky, to have:
1: found a 73 Dart Sport 4 speed that had a 340 (vs a 360) in it...I know 73s had both, early in 73 they had 340s, later in 73 they had 360
2: the one that I found had some kind of other factory 8 3/4 parts swapped in?
Am I misunderstanding something? I thought (think) that all 340/360 V8 4 bbl A bodies had a 8 3/4. As a matter of fact, my friend who helped me swap the 8 3/4 from the Dart into the Aspen just sold an ORIGINAL 72 Demon, and it had an 8 3/4

A bodies didnt come with an 8.75 rear from the factory AFTER the 72 model year. 72's had them, sure, but not 73's no matter what engine. 7.25 or 8.25, thats it.
Pretty much all 73 and newer A body V8's got the large bolt pattern 8.25 and discs. 7.25 rear could be either bolt pattern depending on disc (large) or drum (small) front brakes.

Most likely your donor rear was either an A body 8.75 with redrilled/replaced axles OR a cut down 8.75 from whatever MOPAR. not all that unusual to find.

I'm glad I found it, and it went into my 79 Aspen so easily. I had less than 2 weeks from the time the factory 8.25 broke and we were due to be in St Louis at the 3 Mopar clubs meet. The first car we saw the first day of the show was a 70 Coronet R/T in bronze metallic, white convertible top and interior, 4 speed, Dana, N96 and 426 Hemi. That was 1982. The license plate was "1 of 1" but I think a second one has been found since then. 6 Panther Pink/Moulon Rouge T/A Challenger AAR Cudas there. One Green T/A Challenger with 6,000 ORIGINAL miles...the cars there were AWESOME in number and condition. One of my favorites was a B5 and white 70 Hemi GTX, it was beautiful in the bright sunshine.
