A999 Transmission in 1980 Cordoba

In my recently acquired 1980 Cordoba, I have an A999 transmission according to the fender tag code (318 4V engine). in 1980, from what I understand, the low gear was a 2.4, moving to a 2.76 in 1981 and on A904/A998 transmissions. How much of a difference does this make to accelerating from a standstill? I think the rear end gears ar the standard 2.94s in an 8 1/4".

The older heavier cars needed an extra boost so they put the lower 1st & 2nd gears in the trans.
 
Lower gears where used because of the higher final drive ratio's, especially with 2.24 gears.
 
Two small points to keep in mind:

1. The 2.24 rear 8 1/4 won't necessarily accept a 3.55, at least without some other work; I think its the carrier that needs to be changed out as well.

2. The RPMs on the highway will go up significantly. Depending on the amount of highway driving that you do, this may or may not be important to you.

the 3.55 gears are more highway friendly than the 4.10 gears i had in my road runner and charger way back when but i thank you for your input all tips hints and suggestions are greatly appreciated in my quest for a better faster mopar
 
I have 3.55 in Modoba with a 2500 stall converter. I wish I had an overdrive. With the loose converter, 70 mph runs about 3500 rpm.
