Looking for power or the short black solid antenna for a '81 Diplomat. I looked at the the universal power antennas and there are quite crappy. With the mods that I would make, its not worth the effort. Since the car is black, that old style of the shorty masts would work for the look I want.

To clarify your request, are you looking for a “Chrysler short style non-power antenna, in black”, to replace your current power antenna with?

Until the ‘90’s, I don’t recall Chrysler making an antenna in anything but (bright) stainless steel (and chrome, for the base). The newer antennas, which come in black, have a smaller fender hole – which make it hard to adapt.

Most all Chrysler rear wheel drive cars, from ‘74ish to ’89 and with non-power antennas will fit and work for you, but you might have to find a way to darken its appearance. Even then, I don’t recall seeing a “short” version, before.

I had one on an ex cop car. Thought that it was the police radio antenna but it was for the car radio. Looked like a bid walkie talkie antenna about 10-12".

That was an aftermarket "shorty" antenna. They are available at any number of places. Not sure if any of them are the right size and thread pitch for your car though.
