Best 8 3/4 rear replacement years

'66 was the starting year. You're going to have a hard time finding one and when you do you'll be paying through the nose though. Not like what it was even ten years ago. What's your build and the intended usage? If your 8.25" can't cut it I would seriously think about brand X axles.
Think you’re about right on the years. What guys ask for a used and abused 8.75 pumpkin near me would have me looking at 8.8 or 9” myself. I spent a good deal more than I needed buying and rebuilding my 8.25 than if I had went Brand X.
I half jokingly tell my wife I could build 2.5 brand X for what I have in and will end up having into my car, lol.

Took the car out for the 1st time after buying it in
2019. The tire's that old owner had on the rears were 295/50 .255/50 in front. Took to my mechanic to change oil, filters etc. I also has new 225/70 tire's installed. When i drove car sounds like the rear making loud noise(humming, grinding). Bringing car back to have rear end checked, brakes checked. My luck it never turns
out to be something simple to fix. Hoping for the best expecting the worst. The car is 1979 Aspen

If you need one sooner than later, then you're better off with a junkyard Ford Ranger 8.8 with new perches welded on.
Or you could wait to find another 8 1/4 or 8 3/4. The deals are out there. It just takes time.

Not sure yet. Hopefully its rebuildable.

8 1/4 are pretty strong. Its probably a bearing causing the noise if it's not something simpler.
Just bought both kits from DR DIFF.
