I’m seriously thinking of picking up a Borgeson Steering unit for my 1979 RT. Anybody have any experience? Thoughts? Ideas?
Thanks for the reply. What sector shaft size do I go with?I have one in my 1987 and my Dad has one in his 1980. Gets rid of the slop at 12 o'clock, tighter, faster ratio, physically smaller and lighter. Get it through Bergman Autocraft and purchase his column adapter as it makes the installation a lot easier.
Dad's car turned out excellent. His power steering pump seems to be perfectly matched to the box with two shims in the pressure valve. My car has a more boosted feeling to it with the same two shims. There were so many combinations of Saginaw power steering pumps in flow and pressure outputs it isn't funny. I may go back to Borgeson in the Spring and get one of their pumps as opposed to the POS reman unit I got at the parts store.
Overall it's a really worthwhile upgrade. Pricey, but worth it.
I have one FFI steering gear in my garage (been in the box for about three years now). The steering gear in my ’86 leaks fluid bad – but, just not ready to change it out, yet (mumbles something about the three cats in the way ...).
That said – I am impressed with the Borgeson steering gear and do want to get one for my other car.
It is just the cost of the (Borgeson) gear, adaptor and hoses ($864 - all figures are US), plus FFI torsion bars ($695) and a pair of FFI sway bars ($790) which is preventing me, so far.

As far as Duke5A video goes, FFI has a fix for that: http://www.firmfeel.com/a_body_mopar_sector_support_kit.html - but not one that directly fits FMJ K-frames.

I have a similar system on my Dodge pickup that looks like this:

On the full-size pickups, the lower gear bushing wears out causing a fluid leak – but more importantly, the loose bushing/shaft causes a “death wobble” at highway speeds, which is quite scary . . . correction, extremely scary.
After installing the above setup on my pickup (and a replacement gear) – all problems went away and it feels so much better taking tight turns now. The large bracket (pickup) is HUGE and must weigh 25-30 pounds.
The bearing and gear adaptor/nut is the same one they are using on the FFI kit.
I want to get the FFI sector shaft stabilizer kit (part number SSK) and make it fit on my two vehicles – as well as weld up/reinforce the crap out of my K-frames, when I get to that point.
BudW, I’m actually tempted to order that sector support kit and attempt to modify it for my F-Body. After seeing the video, I can’t believe the factory K frame flexes that much! I’ll probably get the kit in a couple weeks.
