Are there different (at least two) diameter rear sway bars for F and M bodies. Don't know why I thought they were all the same but I did. We're thicker rear bars police only? Maybe these aren't even F or M bars but reasonably confident they are. Help appreciated.

M body wise only police package came with rear sway bar and they had a thicker front one. There was only one size of rear.

They are speaking the truth. Only one rear bar size, and went on Police AHB's. And AHB's got larger front anti-sway than civis.

I know this about rear bars but, the front sway bar on my Aspen is 1". When ordering the poly bushing kit, there was a choice of 7/8", 1" and 1 1/8".

Jay Leno's guy gave me a rear sway bar they took off of a Volare, it's 1-3/8". I forget where he said they got it from. I plan on putting it on my 83 Diplomat soon. I would like to get another one of these if I could find out who makes them

I have a 1" on wife's 77 R Runner. Pretty sure it was Addco. That was the biggest one I found prior to being given the silver bar a while back. I'm sure that's overkill.

There were two (2) sizes of rear bar from Chrysler. 1976 Aspens and Volares police package were available with a 7/8 rear bar. That lasted only for the first year or so, then went to 3/4 bar. Check the parts catalogs starting with the 1976 and work forward. I have a bar of each size in my garage.

Years ago MP carried a 1" diameter rear bar for our rides, see part# P4876531. Not sure who was actually making that bar, but it certianly does look like the Addco bar, which is claimed to be an OEM replacement.

I picked up that MP bar from a fellow forum member last summer and installed it in my coupe over the winter. Haven't road tested it yet, but it did replace the factory 3/4" bar, so I'm expecting the back end to be a little less squirmly.

EDIT
====

One more thing: the end-links in our rides need some serious beefing up, LOL...I say this becuase having mounted the bar in the car I asked my wife and daughter to put the back end of the coupe through a serious amount of jounce test...so literally both of them pushing down on the bumper in a steady ON & OFF pattern...I really wanted to make sure there were no squeaks in the bar bushings and that the bigger bar caused no binding against the larger exhaust pipes.

Well, all was good, there was some noise from a completely different component, but OMG, laying under the car and eyeballing the moving parts I was amazed to see the end links visibly bow as the suspension was being compressed.

OK, you might say: maybe it's all stiff being new, etc., etc....sure, but the poly bushings were well lubed with their grease (stick stuff that it is, but awesome), and really the compressed suspension should have caused the bar to rotate. Well, the bar did rotate, but the links were bowing far too much.

Sooo...for what it's worth, I am now looking at sourcing a larger diameter setup, perhaps the Addco end-links might do - although I haven't been able to find any sizing info - as they have a pretty wide ranging size selection.

I wonder if the bigger bar only lasted a year because it handled better with the smaller one or they made other changes.
Fords had a bigger bar for some of the non police models and back when the cars were still new anyway it caused hanling issues when it was used with the stiffer police suspension. In other cars mixed with the police front bar it was a nice upgrade.

Chrysler did not offer a police package in the F-body for 1976. They still had the A-body, and it was the only year those cars could be ordered as a police model.

The police package was available for the F-body in '77 (but not the M-body, which didn't become a police car until '81), but they only came with the 3/4" rear bar, which continued through 1989.

E Body came with 3/4". If you need something huge, you have to go to the aftermarket but 3/4" is plenty unless you're going to be racing 24 Hr LeMans or something

I'd be more concerned with the size of the front one where a majority of the weight is.

Agreed. I think that's Why Chrysler never went beyond the 3/4" in the squads. Sometimes too much is just too much.
