F cop car question.

Pretty sure the F-body Police Pkg became available in 1977. When in the '77 model year it came out, no idea.

I have owned 77 F body Police cars. I have not owned or seen 76's at auction that I recall but they may have been offered as the Nova was a hot fleet seller with the gas crunch being of concern at the time. A LOT of Novas were in use from 75-78. It's been a long time since I was at those auctions or saw any of those vehicles and really didn't pay close attention at the time, other than closely scrutinizing which cars I wanted to bid or which ones went way too high on etc

I did a little digging and found a couple places that both said 1977 was the first year there was a Police pkg for the F-body, no where was '76 mentioned. You know, if it's on the internet, it must be true:D Bonjoir.

The parts book shows no certified speedo for 76 f-s, actually only two versions im my early printed 76 book, 100 mph and 200kmh neither inked with certified either so with all the other little indicators probably safe to say no 76, at least semi early.

I do have one other early 76 200 speedo and although a replacement its got the chrysler logo on it and says Chrysler Corporation, alot like the vin tag script but yet a little different color right above the odometer opening and was like that from the box. I will snap a pic, its odd.

I was still buying 76 Bbody cop cars with 400 and 440s.

They were the best and usually cheapest. FHP kept the full size body until they could get the 440 in the B in 77. Those became available at auction around 1980, except for wrecked ones. Low mile wrecks were an especially good deal. You could make a good "new" car with three $200 wrecks and sell a ton of leftover parts to the cab guys and car lots

The Bbody cars were great for what I wanted, I don't think that I ever paid more than $150 for a car.
