Today 9/15, 3 hours after I let my employer know my wife was scheduled to give birth this Sunday, 9/21, my boss called me and told me I was fired effective immediately.
Last week I had asked for PTO when she gives birth and never got an answer.

We have no village or support and I was our only income.
I have filed a few job applications already and for unemployment and SNAP (food stamps), but do not know if I will actually qualify for any of it or when it will take effect.

If you can find it in your heart and have the means to help us, it would be the most incredible thing to ever happen to us. I have been down and out before; but never with a family relying on me for everything. Frankly I’m terrified.

Thanks for reading through my sob story if you made it this far. Our GoFund me link is below.

Fun update:
After requesting my paystubs and all recorded/reported hours of my labor during my employment, I only received paystubs. The owner of the company informed me, he doesn’t keep records of hours/labor worked for his employees…Well I do, and he has a legal obligation to; I do not.
On one of my travel trips, I worked 106.77 hours in a 9 days, I reported this to our office admin to ensure they reported my hours correctly. All based on uber receipts and the times I was picked up or dropped off my hotel and work location. The owner of my company only paid me for 69.75 hours.
Needless to say, that’s one small example of the bullshit I’m sorting through now.

I have applications out, a couple call backs, and a burning desire to be compensated for all of my lost wages/travel pay during my employment….what would you do if you knew you had been fucked out of thousands of dollars for your time and labor?

First, all the best for you and your wife - and the to-be-newborn.

On the job: what a fuck up. I always had the impression (from your occasional reports) you liked your job on the machines and did great work... Are they selling less machines, because of import duties and have to scale down? I mean, this is no excuse to not handle employees respectfully anyway...

Good luck in finding a good new job.
I'm not familiar with US employment laws/regulations, but may a legal counsel help some? Or will they only take the last penny you have?

Alright, let's sort through some things here!

1st - you, your 'second-half', and the soon to be here bundle of joy are your TOP priorities!!! (and you will do great at these so long as you keep that in mind)

2nd - the funding campaign should be about getting you a Labour Lawyer so that you can go kick some ass!!!

3rd - I can NOT speak to US laws, but I will tell you what happened to my wife here in Canada when she was dismissed after refusing to execute work that wasn't just unethical, but downright illegal!

- we sought legal advice
- we then filed the appropriate Ministry of Labour complaint
- the process did take a while, but at the end of it all not only was the employer punished (financially) for wrongful dismissal, but the guy in charge of the review, having completed numerous AUDIT and staff interviews, decided to review the last 5 yrs. of employment history, which then resulted in multiple payouts to all current and PAST employees for various skipped pay periods (we are talking here holidays, extra time, stat holidays, et.c) and other wrong doings

All in all, this was a massive cluster for the employer and a huge win for the "little gal" (that being my wife)!!!

US I'm sure must have similar laws, but navigating them all on your own is probably scary.
