I've got a friend who has 3 of the 10 spoke aluminum wheels and no center caps. Realistically, what are they worth? I wouldn't mind having one of them to use as a matching spare for the 4 that I have.
I asked my friend and he said he said he would like to get $100 per wheel. For me that's expensive for a wheel that would be my spare especially since I've got a few steel wheels laying around.
As someone who has purchased many sets, my opinion is that $100 is a super-fair price. It's an easy wheel to restore. A decent wheel shop can make them look brand new for $100 per wheel. I had my set refinished, total cost was $400 for the set, and they looked better than new. For a complete set of wheels in as-new-condition with domes and caps, $1,300 is fair. $800 without domes and caps. Driver-quality wheels are easily $100/wheel and there is a market for them.
PS: I have 3 spare center caps (not domes) in NOS condition. If you need one, I'd part with one for $25.
Thanks for the info. I have 4 including the 2 piece center caps from an 82 Mirada that I parted many years ago. The rims themselves are in great condition having been out of the weather for at least 20 years. Also many years ago I found and bought 4 NOS of the little caps that snap into the main cap that bolts to the wheel. Is the little cap what you're referrng to or the bigger one that's actually secured to the wheel? If I buy one of his wheels, I might need to consider this even though the rim will probably be the spare.
Yeah. The outer-most part is called the cap, the larger piece that bolts to the wheel is called the dome.
Then I feel real lucky. I got all 4 of these with nice tires for 150.00. missing one cap, which I have.
These wheels came forged and cast. From the outside they look the same but from behind the cast ones have hollowed out spokes. I would stay away from the cast ones.
Priced a little high, but here's an example of market-pricing. Complete set. 1981 Dodge Mirada CMX Factory Aluminum Wheels!NOS! WOW! Mopar Chrysler Plymouth
Yes. That's them. I'm not saying that they're going to break, but given the choice I'll stick with the forged version.
You Are Right! I looked at mine today and they do NOT have the hollow inside slot. Then I looked at the ones on this 83 Mirada and they DO have the hollow slots. Could this be a early production Vs a later production thing? Did they do those cut outs to save on aluminum? It may just be an optical illusion, because I didn't measure them. The dish looks wider on the solid wheel.
