No Caprice or LTD would have been able to withstand what those Monaco's went through, which is why they chose to use Mopars. At least that's my theory 
Kind of like they said in the Vanishing Point remake. "Son, you'll never catch him in that dog pie Chevy, it takes a Mopar to catch a Mopar". One of the best movie lines ever!
