Well, as the title suggests, I have a mystery vibration in my car that I cannot track down. It's been there for a while, I've been ignoring it, but I can't anymore. When I got my 78 Volare, it was fine, but eventually, the 7.25 that was in it went out. I replaced it with an 8.25. At the same time, I put on a different set of wheels and tires. This vibration only happens at highway speeds, so I didn't notice it for a while. The roads are so bad around here, that a low speed shimmy could possibly be the road, so it didn't cross my mind. I did originally use the stock driveshaft, but have finally had a new one made that is shorter. Because of who made it, I know the driveshaft is not a problem. But, there's a lot that I'm fairly confident is not a problem. I have rebuilt the front steering and suspension, installed solid k-frame bushings, new steering box, motor mounts, transmission mount, replaced all the leaf spring and shackle bushings, did the iso-delete, all new shocks, two new rear wheels (Keystones), two different sets of new tires, and even changed the whole rear end. Everything has improved the car as I've done it, a lot of it was needed anyway, but I still have this random vibration. It will be smooth, but then after a lane change or a corner, it will have a vibration until I do it again. If it's doing it and I stop, the car will shimmy side to side until I get up to speed, and then it's gone until I get up over 60mph and it becomes a vibration until I turn. The car handles great, cruises great, just has this annoying vibration. It does not change with engine speed, shifting from third to second, or into neutral does not change anything. Braking also does not change it. It is definitely coming from the rear of the car, but I am at the point that I don't know what it could be. Could it be in the leaf springs or shackles? This car is my daily driver, 100 miles a day, seven days a week, and I am going on a 5,000 mile road trip with it at the end of May and would really like this solved. I took it on a 1,400 mile trip in February and just dealt with it, but I don't want to do that again. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
