Hello everyone! Long time A-body guy here that just bought an F-body. Well, I traded a project for it that I was never going to finish. This beauty of a 1978 Volare had sat on the side of the office at a local junkyard for a number of years. The yard owner bought it from Copart with intentions of fixing it up and selling it, but that never happened. I've seen it sitting there for at least 6 years now. On and off over the years, I've asked about the car, but never got a straight answer on if he'd sell the car. I offered him my 1976 Nova that I had as a trade because I was never going to finish that project, and he said yes. So, even after all that time, with just a battery, this car drove out of the junkyard and back to my shop. He had taken out the rear taillights to replace with new ones, but never did. Because of this, the trunk filled with water. A lot of water. But even as bad as it looked, there is no rust in the trunk. There is a layer of surface rust, but that is from what was in the water rusting, and not the car. The trunk still has paint in it, and it has not been compromised. New tires, a tune-up, oil change, and carb rebuild, this is a fantastic driver! Other than the a/c, everything on this car works. There are a couple minor things that need fixing, but I've been driving it for three days now and have already put 300 miles on it. The super six and A904 are doing great; been getting 25mpg out of it. It did come with a new vinyl top, but I'm not sure if I'm going to put it on. The same junkyard has a Volare parts car that was not a vinyl top car, and I may take the windows and put them in this car instead. This was supposed to be a second car, but it may become the primary car with how nice it is. My other car is a 1974 Dart Sport with a built up "long-rod" 225 and a T5 manual; as a daily in sunny FL, has a/c too. Fast, fun, good mileage, been my daily for a year now, but, it has zero insulation in it, and although fun, not exactly pleasant to drive because it's always been a "I broke this and need this to get to work tomorrow" kinda thing. But now with this Volare, the roles of the cars may switch. The Dart may become second car, and the Volare the primary driver.

Best back story in a long time....
Do you have a picture of it sitting at the side of the building before you brought it home?
It would make a great before/after composition.

I'm thinking that swapping that gray van for palm trees was a perfect.

Looking forward to more stories from your journey.
