So I finally broke down and bought the rims I wanted for the doba. I was planning on going with 17's, but with a small price difference I ended up going with 20's. They are us mags 20x8" in the front and 20x8.5" in the rear. The tires I'm rolling on are zenna tires on a 245/30/20 in front and 255/35/20 in rear.

That's what I thought. The guys at the tire place we're telling me if I had went with 275's in the rear, there would've been rubbing issues. Seeing this I should've stuck with my gut and went with the wider tire.

I have 275 40 17 on all four corners, no rubbing. wheels are 17x9 5 5/8 back space. I don't think your backspace number matches actual dimmensions

I guess it depends on what is being measured. Mine is from the wheel mounting surface to the outer lip of the wheel.

Question not to hack this thread. Found some 18x8 wheels for my 83 Cordoba. The fronts are 245/40r18 and the back are 295/35r18. Backspacing is 4 3/4. Would the rears work without any issues?

no. you will rub on the wheel well lip for sure unless your car sits pretty high. a 295 is way to wide for a 8" rim

A majority of the J and M-bodies came with a 205/75R15 – which “should” measure about 27.11 inch tall and 8.07 inch wide (at tread). Even wider where the tire bulges out at.

Your 245/40R18’s “should” measure about 25.72 inch tall and about 9.65 inch wide (at tread).
Your 295/35R18’s “should” measure about 26.13 inch tall and about 11.61 inch wide (at tread).

Either tire is too wide for an 8” wheel.
The rear tire is almost 50% wider than the wheel is.
