There is currently a '78 Volare wagon on eBay that is somewhat similar to my Aspen: "Old Yellow" (OY). Same one-year-only color of "Classic Cream" and it also has the cool upgraded plaid interior. Unlike OY, it has a 360 four barrel, automatic, and is for sale.

This Volare is an interesting car; it has an older '76/'77 Volare grille, and although it is listed as a "Premier" model, it does not have any of the extra "upgrade" trim on the exterior, including around the windows and side trim. The upgraded hood and fender trim is also not present. But yet, there are the gold "Premier" badges next to the Volare badges on the front fenders. Humm. The interior does seem to have the upgraded "Premier" treatment with the plaid seats and door panels, and the rear cargo hatch covers. It is possible that this car could have been ordered with the Premier interior options, and without with the exterior options, because by 1978, F bodies were no longer relegated to just the "base", "Custom", or "Premier"/"Special Edition" model packages, but all the options could be had separately. A mix and match sort of deal. Or, it's owner could have swapped out the original base interior for the "Highland" plaid like I have with OY. So, just what this car originally was, isn't necessarily clear. But then, does it really matter?

It is also similar to my wagon in that my current idea for OY is to have the full "Special Edition" interior wrapped in a plain vanilla exterior (appropriate color for this too). The only exception to this is I have a set of Road Wheels for it. Seeing this eBay offering makes me sort of reconsider the plain exterior. It seems a bit too plain. I had planned on at least some nice '70's style double pinstriping on OY, but humm, maybe I need to reconsider replacing the side trim rather than just removing it. Going to have to re-think this thing to avoid being too plain. I'm not Amish.

One thing that I think detracts from this car is the wheels. I don't like them at all, and I don't think they "fit" the car's styling at all. Also, it looks lowered, at least in the front, which I would never do. Otherwise, it looks like a nice rust-free wagon. Bet it is fun to drive! The price made me look twice, but good luck to the seller if they think they can get that for it.

OY before I put the plaid interior in it, and before I got rid of the white lettered tires:

Looks like a very well done repaint. They probably shaved the trim off when they did the paint job. Originally a 318/2v Has a G in the VIN code
