Presidential election

I always treated politics as verboten here. Shit gets dicey on Moparts.

Anyways, I thought Trump was going to steamroll. Turns out the guy is far more off putting than I thought. He is leading in the states he needs to carry to win right now, but this might go to a contested election.

I spent 14 hours at the polls on Tuesday running ballots out to curbside.
95% was Trump. Which means, there will be a thumb-on-the-scale someplace(s) to ensure he won't get a second term.

I look at it this way.
Censoring one candidate and not the other.
Insulting one candidate and not the other.
Silencing one candidate and not the other.
Pretty obvious the fix is in.

There's a lot of people on car forums who don't comment on the politics because they know a lot of gross comments are sure to come out of the woodwork.

I agree. I'm part of that silent force, usually.
Still amazes me how intolerant and unwilling to compromise that folks can be.

After my sister-in-law got cancer at 40 and was dead at 42, it made me realize how temporary our lives are.

I also realized, I don't have to spend my life placating others that are intractable.

I'm glad you are here though ... and the other folks on the forum.

pretty much 89.Fifth. I try to keep politics separate until I feel other people out better.

It's been a strange year, and a lot more people voted early this election than in previous ones. If the states had been allowed to count ballots early, then it wouldn't be dragging out all week like it has.

I have never seen a country this divided. Each side absolutely wants the other side wiped off the face of the earth, there seems to be no middle ground. You can give our awesome media credit for that. I could care less which horse you bet all your money on, you should have the same rights we fought for and you shouldn't live in fear that someone will torch your shit at 4am because you vote on the opposite side of the ballot. I can't predict the future, but I would bet that we are in for one heck of a wild ride.

you're not wrong. It sucks because it seems like the more ways that we figure out how to connect people (Internet, Forums, Social Media, etc), the farther apart and more divided we seem to be overall.

That's not the fault of forums or boards. Social media is designed to feed us exactly what we want creating isolated bubbles, or echo chambers. It's all in the algorithm.

Gentlemen Y'all have said an absolute mouthful. These internet s
" social media" places have cause the real meaning of social meetings (i.e.) car shows, carhops meetings, cruising/cruises, etc. gone forever.

I just spent boo coo money getting the ponds cleaned out, putting in a fishing dock, adding a 6 acre pond to the property this summer.

Exactly 1 time there has been a kid under 18 in a kayak in the new big pond.

Exactly 2 times there has been a kid of 18 shooting turtles in the front pond.

The over 50 crowd : 5 folks spent 3 and 4 days fishing for bass, blue gill and catfish.
The over 50 crowd : shot and killed 3 beaver but it took 2 days and tons of ammo (the fun part)
The over 50 crowd : sat and watched the sunset on the new fishing doc a dozen times, fished off the doc for the two chairs that fell into the drink, used the jonnie boat to canvas the neighborhood waters
The over 50 crowd : drank beers, green apple schmirnoff, and generally told/re-told amazing stories several nights this summer
The over 50 crowd : 4 different families had 'stay cations' there due to covid... yes I sanitized between the visits but so enjoyed family and extended family for 4 different weeks over 5 months.
The over 50 crowd : built some wonky wood furniture from cast off wood

The 18 and under crowd spent tons of time on their phones on social media -- just never socialized in person.

CRAY CRAY if you ask me.

(I won't tell you how many times I've gone over and hand fed the longhorns... just a year of some great memories... in spite of the idiots and covidiots out there).

Sadly, my eldest boy, 24, get's his "social" interaction via gaming with friends he made in other states when we lived there. My second son, is more down to earth and does more with his hands (65 valiant project) and is slated to go to boot camp (third gen jarhead) in Jan. Next two I'm working on straightening out. it's tough because we don't live in bubbles these days.

I hate the way social media has "twisted" the word "friend" and uses words like "follow". They are breaking down the true meaning of words and successfully creating a bunch of sheep.

The Politics and Social Media is like anything: too much is a bad thing. Just like alcohol and religion- too much and it gets out of hand. Make no mistake, Faith is all you have at the end of the day. Keeping the politics out of the car hobby is key. I wasn't much into politics. I was brought up to not trust any man with pretty hands and a suit that cost more than my car. I admit, I post stuff on my own wall that will piss off a good number of folks. I don't bring that to the car forums. As with most elections, there are 3 sides: those for a particular candidate, those against a particular candidate, and those who don't bother. when it comes to the car community, I don't care how you vote, what color you are, where you are from, or what ever else is your mindset. It is all about the car stuff and helping each one another out.

My projects are what keep me sane. I've been working 60 plus hours a week at work. When I get exhausted at work to the point I'm done, I'm opening a Valvoline Instant Oil Change Franchise.
