Radio connections, electric antenna G22

Hi all,
I was lucky to get hold of an electric antenna for my G22 1978 model on EBay. Looking forward to fit it on the car.

Some photos of the set, original package with part number and unopened envelope with mounting screws etc. Feels good.
Anyone of you having or have had this type of antenna? There are only two wires to connect and that must be as follows:
Yellow with black tracer to radio with the only one left free. The other one, brown must be ground somewhere.
All hints and tips most welcome.

Do you have the relay and wiring for it?
The radio powers it when it's on and power turns off when it's off. Its like a power window motor the wires at the antenna reverse to make it go up and down but it still needs the relay to reverse them.

Thanks Mike for your answer. Very informative too as I at present do not have the wireing diagram with me. The electrical manual is in our house in Sweden and the car too. I must check it over but if you have any drawings or photos available please feil free to inform me. I am very very thankful for any information.

I have all of the 1977 manuals coming in the mail. As soon as I get them, I can post the wiring diagrams. They might not be the same as 1978 though

Sorry I didn't respond sooner, the bag looks like some wiring adapters. I have the 78 manuals I'll post some pics sometime today if it's in it.

Sure must be as they will fit the the relay or control module I have found at Arizona Spares. But I have a feeling connection may be done without that box/relay.
As far as I remember there was a dotted line from the radio to the antenna.

It looks like you're right. I didn't remember it having a flat plug like that but it's been years since I did anything with it adding a power antenna to onr of my cars and it was an 80s one so it might have changed. I had to dig the controller for it and the wiring out of a junk yard car.

That wire that says to radio has a plug on it, looks like orange radio power wire gets unplugged and that antenna control wiring plugs in in its place and the radio plugs into that. At least you got that harness!

Fantastic of you Mike. A million thanks to you and glad my memory was not far off your scheme here. Now I am sure I will manage to sort it out. If there is anything I can do for you
please let me know. I have made and Exel database of all the parts Arizona, Len Dawson and Jersey parts have. Not to forget the same from Brads Autoparts. Makes it easy to search for parts numbers. I will try to post one to you here if I manage.

Thanks Mike for your help. Page 50 (8-281) is easy to follow but one thing I do not quite understand so please help:

From the control box there is a line from the uppermost contact point to page 51; Wire x12 20BKR/R*
Following that to page 51 is a little difficult as that page is a bit out of focus. Having said that I believe
it goes to the antenna and fuse 1 for the Ignition switch. Seems all right with me but then the only left on the rear
of the radio must be the X12 DR* going to the radio and probably into the yellow and brown on my radio.

The antenna motor is already connected to the control box via the X14 and X13 if I read the scheme correct?

4 wires are easy to understand is no problem, It is only the two uppermost (X12 both) that confuse me.

Anyway, I have plenty of time as the Control box will not be delivered until the end of October.

That x12 20BK/R goes to the radio to a red wire that should have a matching plastic plug as that antenna harness. Then the next wire x12 20R connects to the red wire from the fuse where the radio should have connected (so the radio unplugs from the car and this power antenna comtrol plugs in and then goes to the radio with the second wire) It doesn't look like your radio has that stand alone red wire, not sure what color it would be on it.

What adds to confusion is on page 51 with the radio it shows the fuse as #11. On page 50 with the antenna it shows as fuse #2.

Yes those 2 other wires go to the antenna.

I can email you the pictures if you message me your address, they are a bit more clear then the forum posted them.

Hi Mike,

Phu, I finally got the hang of it after a few days thinking and more thinking, making drawings and so on.
I have come up with the following:
The red and orange wires both get 12 volts: the red is switched by ignition or accessory; the orange powers the internal light from the headlamp switch. The five-wire bundle is all for speakers: white = right rear, yellow = left rear, dark green = left front, violet = right front, black = speaker ground. The yellow with a dark tracer must be to trigger a power antenna.

So the X12 DR* surely must be connected to the red wire on the back leading to Fuse 2.
The orange wire on the back must be connected somewhere (unless I have already done that as my memory slip...) to another orange one leading to Fuse 7. Again: I remember I checked Fuse 7 several times and the lights worked on the radio as far as I remember.

Now to the wire x12 20BK/R*. That puzzeld me untill I raised my eyes to the top of Page 50 finding the dotted lines from the power antenna on the page. How daft can a person be? I must have been fixed to the middle and below on the page. The fuse to use is number 11. Problem must now be solved I presume as that was your advice.

I have a feeling that the newer antennas has three wires from the antenna as seen on one of your diagrams. Tuesday next week I am over to our house in Sweden to check things over, test drive the car properly (got temporary registration plates) and then later change the rear axel to the 8 1/4" that I bought in May over here. Will swop the brakes and plates from the smaller axel as I believe it has only 10" brakes. Got all new brake linings and fittings for the smaller axel and she will not be used heavily but for cruising.
