I ordered a new speedometer cable a couple years ago and the shop that is finishing up the work says this one won't fit. I need the screw in style. The one I have is the Pioneer CA-3022, and I'm finding other brands with similar fittings. My car is an 88 Fifth Ave with cruise control. My tech told me there are 2 speedo cables on the car and that I need the lower cable that goes down to the transmission. The old cable should be fine for now, but it is cracked.

The ccorrect cables are on Rock Auto. Look under Diplomat. 3023 looks like it's the single non cruise cable. It looks you heed Pioneer CA3024 or YTP Y879 etc.. The top part to the cruise unit screws to that but at the transmission end should be the clip on style. Unless someone changed your parts before.

Thanks Mike I'll check those part numbers, and yes AMC Diplomat, mine is a cruise control car. FWIW the car was started today for the first time in 3 1/2 years and she sounded sweet. Sounded a little different with the Sniper EFI and new exhaust. It was a good day today.

I stopped in last week and that was the correct cable, they installed it. Thanks!

Cool! I'm glad it worked. It becomes a pain if the parts have been changed before and you don't know what's been used or the listings are wrong.

I checked today when I went to write a review, and they do include the 1983-87 5th Aves in the list of cars that lower cable fits, but not the 88's and 89's. I thought that was odd.
