I wanted to pull the Caravelle out sooooooooo badly today.
Weather was great. A bit chilly here too bit sunny and dry.
But I can't leave a dead wagon in my friend's father's driveway so that was the priority today.

But.....success! It's alive!!!!

Well boys and girls, I guess it's time for the car to go away for the winter. Noticed this morning they had sprayed that treatment stuff on all the freeway bridges, overpasses, fly over ramps, etc. Also did the underpasses and overpasses at the interchanges. So now I'm blocked in and can't go anywhere except up and down the frontage road. Even my alternate route over the freeway on Foxglove Road at the end of the frontage road was sprayed. It's heavily shaded and really steep over Mosinee Hill. Goes from about 1,100 feet up to 1,700 and back to 1,100 feet again in barely a mile. STEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! Probably why they did that road. Big question is WHY they sprayed anything at all? When it rained a couple days ago it was well above freezing. Yesterday was above freezing (barely) but it was dry. the weekend is forecast to be totally clear, sunny and low 50's. What did they expect to melt??????? Freaking DOT.......................................
Suppose, dump the Stabil in the tank, make a couple runs up and down the frontage road to get it all mixed in and into the carb and probably should make sure there's no dead rubber on the rear tires ;),,,,,,park it in it's winter position out in the garage. It's a sad day in Aspenland.

It's just the idea that there was absolutely no reason to be worried about ice yet and spray that stuff. What's done is done and guess I just have to live with it.

Is it spring yet??????????????????????

They're absolutely salt crazy up here. I'm positive it's because they have to blow their budget for the year. It's coming though. As soon as two flakes hit the ground they'll be out.

This isn't salt, it's some spray stuff that's even worse than salt for messing up your vehicle. Whether it's causes more or less rust than straight salt I have no idea. It sprays from the back of a truck and there's one freeway bridge that's highly prone to icing due to it's location in a low area and it's only a few feet above the water, has a built in deicing spray system that works automatically. At least it has sensors so it won't spray when cars are present and would get sprayed with the crap. What it uses for parameters (temp, humidity?????), who knows?

Always wonder what people did way back before the used so much salt, very few vehicles were 4 wheel or all wheel drive, no ABS, no stability control, no traction control.................. Oh I know, THEY LEARNED HOW TO DRIVE!. A skill lacking in way too many drivers nowdays.

Actually being able to drive is quickly becoming a skill you no longer need to have to drive.

Actually....yes you do. But in a new world of self parking cars and crash avoidance warning buzzers it's perceived that you no longer need to know how to.

Road graters were used to remove the ice in Iowa as early as the early 20s. They still use them to remove the packed ice from pavement before bad storms. But people used to slow down for the weather and now a road grater is a hazard to the idiot in the Explorer that needs to 80 mph in a blizzard.

That's natural selection waiting to happen in my opinion. I vote for more road graters.

My former employer builds a version specifically for snow and ice.

Today's the day, the last day the car will be out for the season. Better make it a good one!
Even if they hadn't sprayed that ice melt crap, looking at the forecast shows that it's time.
Just as well, getting really itchy to get going on the next projects like finishing the luggage compartment, hopefully getting the front seats reupholstered, adjusting the valves now that it's all broken in and everything is seated good (I think they're a little loose). Never did get down to work to discharge the A/C with the recovery machine so I can get the right valve cover off so,,,,,,,,,,,, looks like it'll have to spring a leak. Not the way I want to do it but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

Sad day, last drive of the season and the car is now officially parked until next spring. By spring I don't mean March 21st, around here "spring" could mean the middle of June :(
Off topic but related, sadder yet is I moved the snow shovels and snowblower from the shed to the garage this morning, too. Better than waiting until it snows a foot, drifts a bit and then having to climb over it all to get the snowblower out (been there, done that, lol). Pieces of equipment you hope to not use very often!
