I will be picking my car up after having this Sniper unit installed and took a screenshot to show the ground strap that was once bolted to the voltage regulator is now gone. It needed replaced anyway because it was pretty much frayed. Any recommendations on a replacement? My memory is kinda fuzzy on where it bolted to the engine block. Thanks for the help.

No particular recommendation, I just prefer the look of tin coated braided copper straps myself. Just looks nice vs jacketed copper when you pop the hood.

That's what I'd like to go with. I'm wondering if a 4 gauge strap would be overkill. Going by memory only, I'm thinking it was originally a 10 gauge strap.

Thank you guys I'll have post pics of the engine bay when I get the car back Monday and I'll have to measure from the vr to that head bolt. It's been close to 4 years since the last time I drove this thing, so I'll be glad to see how the rebuilt steering/suspension and fuel injection system do in this car. It's been a lot of money spent and a long wait.

Im glad I saved some old pics. I couldn’t remember which side that strap was bolted on, so I went to one of my d pics and zoomed in. It wasn’t attached to the vr at all, but bolted to the right of it. I do remember it going to the back of the block, with another strap spliced to it going to the original coil. My new coil is mounted right next to the voltage regulator.

It's not a bad idea to run a ground strap to a VR bolt. Way back "in the day", I remember fixing many Mopar charging system problems at work, by running a VR ground, especially here in WI, what with all the rust and corrosion we get from the flipping, frigging winter salt.

Seeing as I was mistaken on that wire being mounted to the VR bolt, which side do I want to mount the new one to? Does that matter? I'll be looking under the hood tomorrow if it isn't raining, Tuesday for sure so I can locate that bolt on the back of the cylinder head.

Either bolt is fine. The regulator grounds through the case. Once there's corrosion/rust on the bolt threads, the ground gets high resistance, and causes charging system faults.

Local parts stores usually also have those straps. Or used to, I haven't looked in a while.
