Big Block Guys, Need Advice: 400ci and 727 into an Imperial

Yep, it's official: I'm big-blocking my '83 Imperial. It's not my first go-around with shoving a big block into an FJM, but last time was a 440 and the guy I was helping...well...his "come hell or high water" approach made for some interesting stories. This will be a 1975 400ci and 727...

Parts Wanted: Shopping List, January 2015

Just putting this out there, if you have anything let me know. All parts are destined for an '83 Imperial, but if I didn't specify, then any FMJ part meeting criteria will work. Gray driver's side seatbelt anchor, with wiring intact Complete Imperial engine bay harness. Don't care about...

    Imperial's Dead...

The transmission, the supposedly built one from my '81 Mirada that I believe is an A904, is done. During a test session at Beech Bend, the transmission hung on the 1-2 shift for about two seconds before slamming second home like none other. At low speeds, the transmission works fine, but...

    A/C help?

I'm trying to get the Imperial's A/C functioning. I've got cold air, but I need to move it through the dash instead of freezing my feet while I sweat my arse off. I've found that the two vacuum lines under the hood have been cooked through and that there is no terminal end for either one. I need...

No more stock EFI. Now, what all can I get rid of electrically under hood?

I'm set to clean up the wiring under my Imp's hood. I want to get rid of a ton of the wiring that the EFI system was using, since the car will only go back to EFI by using an aftermarket system. I don't want to just hack the wiring back, I want the wiring GONE. Anyone done this, or have pointers?

    Parts Wanted List

Got plans, so let me know if you have any of this available. J-car preferred, but if you have F or M stuff that might work I'm interested. Floor shift system with console Bucket seats Steering column for a non-column shift car Manual transmission pedal assembly Imperial top dash plate...

HELP! Need part number for wiper drive motor bushing!

In the middle of fixing the small bushings I managed to mangle my drive motor bushing...the big orange one that the main drive rod rings around. I'm currently without wipers, and I'm not liking not driving the Imperial. I can't locate one, so if anyone has any leads, please let me know. Thanks!

Random idea generator has been busy...

Ok, bear with me...a couple nights ago was pretty dead at work as Seattle was quite literally beating a dead horse.. Three J-cars existed: Mirada, Imperial, and 2nd Gen Cordoba. It was known at first that originally, Mirada was supposed to be Magnum before someone in corporate thought the...

'81-'83 Imperial opera light lamp lenses

Lost my passenger side lens today. No idea when or where it fell off. Need the lenses for sure. Don't care if the crystal Pentastar is in it or not, as long as the lens is whole, I'm good. PM me here or email (mirada79@yahoo.com)

Anyone running 15x8 upfront? Need backspacing

Imperial is getting new wheels! Problem is, it's because yours truly has been running wheels meant to go on an '84 D150 since 2005. I can't balance them out because they are so close to the control arms that weights get knocked off, even with a 1/4" spacer. I would like to stay 15x8 up front...

    Imperial fuel gauge reading

Long time, glad to be back! I'm trying to get my fuel gauge readout to play nice. I'm using Mirada tank/sending unit. Gauge reads "FULL" until it's on fumes, then it drops into numbers as it should. Is this an issue with wiring, computer programming or...? I really don't wanna have to mess...

    Non-stock rear gears question

What are you guys running and how happy with it are you? I'm seriously considering bringing the Imperial up to something about 3.55...this comes after I swapped a 4.11 rear in place of a 2.26 in an '80 Mustang. It must be street and highway livable, but I want to find the good balance between...

First 1000 miles on the Imperial

Been off a while. School is stomping a mudhole through me (and I still have one more semester to go. How do these kids here do it?!) Been daily-driving the Imperial locally for the most part, minus one exceptional trip to Phoenix/Scottsdale (more on that in a minute...) It's been doing fine for...

Just a reminder: Look your stuff over once in a while...

This last weekend was my Imperial's long-distance shakedown and introduction to the wife, who flew in from Kentucky for Spring Break. All was going very well right up until we were leaving. After GoodGuys Scottsdale, we went to the Pavillions for the cruise...which someone forgot to mention was...

    Hardwired stereo?!

The Imperial's deck functions...kind of. It has an issue shifting the audio properly through the speakers via the volume knob. So I picked up an equalizer-equipped deck from an '89 Fifth Avenue. Figured it'd be a cakewalk swap. Bad enough that both the Fifth and the Imperial have Chrysler's...

Wiring harness, carb retrofit, P/N 4304969 WTB

Title says it all. It's the carb overlay wiring harness for the retrofit kit for Imperial. Someone has to have a junked one, I haven't seen one yet. Thanks.

    Removing "PRND21" from digi cluster?

I had a live chat with folks from American Powertrain tonight. Gave me thoughts about putting a 6M (prob. Tremec Magnum) into the Imperial. Since I'm set on keeping the digi cluster, is there a way to remove the PRND21 without resorting to pulling bulbs out of the cluster?

Imperial is getting close to being on the road again!

Been a while since I had something to update on the Imperial. But then a pretty warm 3-day weekend popped up. Admittedly, Saturday was a waste...spent the day at the Barrett-Jackson and Russo and Steele auctions, and capped it that night by going to the Scottsdale Pavillions where there is an...

    More Imperial help needed...

This is probably gonna become a running thread... First off, thanks for the header advice. Three hours later, that b!tch finally made it into the car. Now, as I wait for payday so I can get some fuel hose, I look towards the biggest challenges I have: Underhood wiring. The 323 had a stripped...

Tips on getting the passenger header in?

Ok, the header in the Imperial is holding me up. Any ideas on how to get it in there (preferably without dismantling the steering components)?

    Imperial conversion questions

    1. Can someone get me good pics of the fuel flow meter installed? I know it's near the carb, and that's about it. 2. On the fuel tank, the factory wiring has two connectors: blue/purple/gray for the main connector and a green for the fuel pump, I believe. What do I do with the green wire?

The indicator on the '83 is reading both P and R in Park and the backup lights are on. I know I patched the wiring correctly. Anything else this could be...indicator connector maybe?

I'm calming down now. There is NO fuel or fuel tank in the car. Don't judge my stupidity, it's there to see.
