Well got the k-frame painted with rust bullet and their black shell. Looks pretty good, what a pain to paint. I am coming to a point where I cant put off scraping the under coating...lol

Got a lot of the grim out of the engine bay. Looks pretty good. Some areas that need to be tended too are the heater box area on the outside of the firewall and a small area at the left front were the battery was. Front frame rails look awesome.

Been himmin and hhawing about the rear suspension. I think I will end up pulling the rear. Get new spring perches welded on/ shock plates and set it up like an A/E-body for example.

Mr. Brem could you move this to the "project" topic if you can?

May I ask how that z bar was connected to the frame? It looks like a pivot ball is bolted to the frame rather then to a bracket thats welded to the frame.
I am doing a 4 speed conversion in a 80 Diplomat Coupe and the part that the z bar connects to was gone. I really need to see how this is set up.
Please snap a pic of the frame area the z-bar was connected to. Thanks.

It's bolted

Here's what I got. Had a little trouble trying to get the camera to focus.

Hope that helps.

Still chipping away at the undercoat. I'd rather hit myself with a hammer. Got a lot of the grim off the firewall.

Almost ready for new paint. Don't go to all the work and not paint it. You will be sorry later on.

Yes for sure paint and detail EVERYTHING you can now no matter how tired and wore out you are. If you feel the urge to cut corners, shut the lights off and go in the house until you are back on track.

For sure. Fine advice 76 and Brem.

I probably have half the undercoat on the car off. I have yet to attack the rear of the car yet.

The underside (out of sight) I can do and plan on using Rust Bullet and their black Shell. I want to paint the engine compartment and wheel wells. Have no idea how to start, what to use and have no tools for painting. Do I do a factory finish for the engine compartment or a more glossy look? What are the pluses and minuses to those two looks/finishes? The wheel wells and facing frame rails will need painting. Then undercoat it??? I just scrapped the old shit off.

Auto painting is a skill I have not developed.

I'll leave the outside body to a pro.

Next on the agenda is;

T/O the steering column
T/O brake booster; this I know will involve a lot of cussing and tool throwing.
Dropping the gas tank.
Assaulting the rear half undercoat.

I painted all of mine together so it is all basecoat clearcoat and there are no tape lines. I know you can't do all of yours at once but there are a few places you can tape these cars to make the transition less noticeable. For, instance, I would paint up to the bottom of the fender edge where it bolts on instead of painting the top of the fenders in this run. When he paints the car I would take the hood off and paint it separate and then he can spray the tops of the fenders (with the bolts etc) at that time which will make for a cleaner look.

I like the whole thing being shiny myself and I get a lot of compliments about the paint under the hood of my car, it looks better than the outside of some cars you see at the shows.

If need be you can still spray can the lower parts and clear them too, with spray cans. As long as the high spots are as shiny as the outside of the car and there are no tape lines it will look great.

So what equipment does one need to paint at least the engine compartment and wheel wells?
