Totaled out and all it needs is a fucking intake and alternator?? If they do this you need to buy it, fix it and flip it.
Yea, there’s a chance it will get totaled out due to “engine/electrical fire”. Too far away for me to worry about, he and his family live in, Arizona. I’ve already told him to just buy the parts and fix it himself. He’s uninterested in doing anything that requires much physical effort on his end.

I guess it could be a write off if it takes out the wiring harness or other expensive parts that might not be available.
I do know someone who's cheysler alternator did something similar. I would have thought that the alternator would seize up before it gets to that point and would turn into a belt issue but I guess it shows how well serpentine belts work over the older ones.

Didn’t even blow any fuses. He didn’t know anything was even wrong until his AC stopped working and he could see smoke from under the hood.

May as well be brand new compared to a Midwest truck of the same age.

It makes me wonder if he didn't just ignore that squealing bearing noise over the last six months.
Lol, he’s not mechanically inclined but, he’s not an, idiot.
From what he’s told me, Saturday night, he was on his was home from, mini golf and the battery light came on and off the dash a couple times but, he made it home. He just got a new battery a couple months ago so, he figured it was likely the alternator needing to finally get replaced. Sunday evening, he and our cousin decided to tackle replacing the alternator. For whatever reason, they decided to drive my brothers truck to Autozone, which is a few block from my brothers house. While they were driving the, A/C system started turning on and off by itself even though he had it, off. Then smoke started to pour out of the hood and they finally stopped…you know, as I recall and wrote that out, maybe he and our cousin are, idiots, lmfao.

Well mine didn't stay as nice in the Arizona heat. The factory paint is absolutely ruined and then on top of that is, what I imagine, the worst diy paint job ever applied to a car. Maaco does concours work in comparison
Reminds me of the TV ads when I was a kid growing up in the Socialist Republik of Kalifornia (so glad we moved to WI in 1974 when I was 10!) Anyways,,,,, Earl Shieb, any car, any color. In by 8 out by 5, $29.95 (or was it $39.95?). Nothing but the best, lol

Even adjusting for inflation, that's a great deal on a paint job.

I'd gladly take a horrible paint job like that over what I have now.
